Grandson Jarod (23) running the excavator, Grandson Casey (31) supervising (seems fair, it's his excavator...) and Granpa (71) running the Idiot Spoon! Big Grin

To be fair, we did trade off so everyone got a chance to play with the new toy. John Deere 26G that Casey bought for his landscaping/lot clearing side hustle.

We trenched in power to the Brick Chickhouse (posted separately) for a heated water bucket.

Dang sure didn't need it today, flirting with 90 degrees and working right in the Sun. To top it all off, I was crammed under the porch hooking up power and got stung on the snout by a wasp! I'll tell you what, THAT will make yer eyes water!

Especially not when you gotta haul the dang thing 100 miles one way to get there! Big Grin

We paid for fuel for the truck and the machine, and it was for his Mom anyway so pretty hard for him to moan too much.

Not sure that trench is wide enough

Yup. He has the thumb and the grading bucket. I suspect he'll discover a need for a wainroy if he does much ditching or slope dressing.

Hah! I don't DO sweat! There's something intrinsically wrong with water leaking through your skin!

Also, I worked for the government for 22 years, I KNOW how to hold up a shovel! Razz

"Idiot spoon!" Loved that. I've run one of those many a mile over the years. And in Florida it wouldn't be a government job unless there was one Mexican digging, four or five Mexicans leaning on shovels talking and watching, and a supervisor guy smoking a cig talking on his phone. Razz Big Grin

You are a good man that cares about his chickens. But a big trench like that I would be running everything I could think of through there. How about a water line? A big enough power line to handle 220. Who knows, you might need to be welding out there. Smile
