My 2016 Honda accord suddenly leaks water in the trunk. It is probably going to a body shop. What can I expect to pay to have this repaired? Dealership passed on repairs. Thanks

Is there some obvious dent or damage? Can you tell exactly where the water is coming from? From the bottom due to rust? From the top due to weather sealing rotting? Not enough to go on....

A friend recently had this happen. Water was coming in through the tail light.

Also had a leak in my trunk, Buick Roadmaster, put my dad in the trunk with a flashlight while I held a water hose to rear window seal at different angles till leak started. Marked spot, lifted rubber, and resealed with window gasket sealer. Older trunks don't have an inside release so remember to let family member back out.

Hard to say without more info.
I'd say, fold the back seat & crawl into the trunk while someone sprays it with a hose to find where it's coming in.

Does it have a spoiler on the trunk lid?
Any damage to taillights or rear windshield seals?
Is the 3rd brake light in the rear window or on the trunk lid?

Those would be my first 3 guesses, followed by a possible failed or improperly attached trunk gasket

Most trunks have a rain gutter at the edge where the trunk lid meets the body of the car, check for rusted through pinhole leaks in this gutter, or accumulated crud, leaf litter, etc. that make the water overflow.

Had wet trunk due to a rubber drain plug that popped loose. It was under the carpeting which wicked the water everywhere. It popped in so was not lost, just reinstalled and kinda watched it.

That sounds like a common sense troubleshooting that I wouldn't think of. Except, he doesn't need to fold down the back seat; i don't think they fold down anyway. He can just crawl into the trunk with a flashlight while someone sprays the outside.

It is usually leaking around the taillight. The seal around the light that flushes up to the body get dirt, etc in it and the water running down the back of the trunk gets past it. Sometime yo can just tighten the taillight assembly bolts and it will stop. Sometimes you need to remove the light and reseal.

Every Accord I've been in was able to fold the rear seats down. Acuras less so.
Someone would just need to sit in the back seat with a flashlight & watch for water.

Hope its something simple.

Does it have a sunroof? If so, when was the last time the drain lines were cleaned out?
