I’m gonna be spending a few days here coming up. I have the distillery tours mapped out, but looking for insider info on good restaurants, attractions, must sees, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Some of the big horse farms allow tours if you are interested. I recommend Claiborne. Also if you have any interest in horse racing Keeneland Race Track is a must see. Lexington is Thoroughbred horse country.

What do you like when will you be here and where are you staying?
Keeneland is a must and the Spring meet is most of April if that is when you are here
https://www.keeneland.com/2021-spring-meet

The Windy Corner is one of my favorite places to eat.

Columbia’s Steak House both locations are pretty nostalgic.
Or there is Tony’s, Jeff Ruby’s, and Malones if you want to spend a bit more.

2 of the better spots are out right now because we just had some serious flooding and both sit right on the river so they are closed for clean up.

If you are a coffee person give Brewed a stop. They are a local one off place huge supporters of the 2nd amendment and freedom. They have been fighting the lockdown nonsense hard. The governor is targeting them pretty heavily.

You said you have the Distillery stuff mapped out.
Buffalo Trace is my favorite. If you can get a spot on the ghost or hard hat tour they are the best.

Horse Farm tours are good as noted. I have not been to Claiborne but WinStar is amazing.
https://www.winstarfarm.com/tours.html

The Red River Gorge is close and well worth the time if you have it.
Miguel’s Pizza is the best out there.

Shaker Village is down the road.

Feel free to email me if you want.

When in Lexington, I used to visit Galls. But its a cop / firefighter kind of thing, though.

And a waste of time now. They no longer have the big show room.
Just a little showroom with some 5.11 pants and local PD and Fire uniforms.
Everything is in the warehouse now.

Galls used to have a nice little show room in Richmond, VA also but I was there about two months ago and it is just as Black92LX stated.

I am a history major/buff that focuses on armor along with guerilla warfare and small unit tactics.

Depending on the weather I would stop and see The John Hunt Morgan monument.

As I was growing up in Cols, OH many of my history courses were centered around his raids and exploits.

If you like trains, there’s a pretty cool train you can ride. IIRC it’s at the railroad museum? It’s been a few years since I was there and it was only for 2 weeks for a class in nearby Nicholasville. The countryside around that whole area is beautiful, too, if you just want to drive around.

If you like the outdoors at all, Red River Gorge (as Black92LX mentioned) is beautiful. I first went there a few times in the late 70s, when it was a sleepy little area. Went a decade or so later with a buddy, still the same. From that trip, I remember staying in Slade KY, and the local phone book had the phone number prefixes listed as "666-".

From what I understand these days, it's built up as a major recreational hub - mountain biking, rock climbing, etc. I'd love to go back one of these days.

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

University of Kentucky is in Lexington, a drive through and around campus is nice, lots to see.

Prefer Downtown location of the two, if you go, Diego Salad, Columbias Special, med rare, and steak fries.... Make you jump up and slap yo pappy....

Dang the river got up high if Halls had that much water! Shame....

While the Gorge is arguably the most popular destination for climbers in the states. It is still a pretty sleepy area which is very much a good thing.
Not much hustle and bustle no resorts or anything at the moment.

Also the Kentucky Reptile Zoo is there. I believe 85% of the worlds a antivenin is produced there is numbers serve me correctly.
