I put my information in last Saturday.

I received my new passport today 7 days later.

It says it will not update the status page for two weeks.

I am still waiting for the passport card.

It has always taken me months before this to renew.

Passport card comes separately; it’ll probably show up in a few days.

This thread is pertinent to my interests since I have to renew by December to avoid the whole 6 months to expiration restriction.

Thanks!

Was this on the .gov site or a third party where you pay extra?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I renewed during their beta testing. Took about 2 weeks or so. Very happy with it and glad to see the US is catching up with other countries in this renewal process.

It appears to be a govt site, I'm surprised it was so fast for the OP.

Press release dated Sep 18, 24:

https://www.state.gov/announci...ne-passport-renewal/

Link to renewal page, which says:

"Routine: 6-8 weeks"

https://travel.state.gov/conte...rt/renew-online.html

Mail in for "Expedited: 2-3 weeks and an extra $60"

https://travel.state.gov/conte...-passport/renew.html

It was the official Government site.

https://travel.state.gov/conte...rt/renew-online.html

The site does not allow for expedited service.

It was faster than most pay expedited services.

Faster is an understatement, seven days is supersonic service!

We did expedited (thru State) to renew my wife's passport in early 2023, took 6.5 weeks.

My renewal took like 30 business day in mid 2021, at a time when travel was minimal so the State Department should not have been too busy.

But I get all my stuff done through a corporate processing service on the company dime and usually they get stuff done quickly - like a week or two.

I was going to start a new thread praising DHS, but it seems relevant to just add here.

We’re traveling internationally in a couple of weeks and because I’m an idiot, I didn’t realize that our Global Entry memberships had expired in August.

If you renew before expiration, you’re good to go while the renewal application is processed. If you blow it like I did, they promise nothing and tell you that you might have to interview again.

They specifically warn that late renewers traveling within 6 months might instead buy stand-alone pre-check, because that can take as little as 5 days.

I didn’t do that, but I did have to update each of our applications going back to 2013 with a new address and new employers. I thought we were SOL.

Submitted those applications Friday afternoon and got status updates in less than 24 hours (on a Saturday, no less) that our renewals have been processed and we’re all set. Same numbers, no interviews.

I’m impressed.

Wait. Did I just read about TWO efficient govt agencies in the same thread?

For readers with expired or no Global Entry, the Mobile Passport App is another option. It's not available at all airports, but a couple years ago our daughter used it at ORD and beat us (both with Global Entry) to the baggage claim carousel!

Disclaimer: I've never used this.
