I think the most import thing you can do is put an additional inline fuel filter. In my 2002 Diesel I had a kit that had a very large CAT filter (2 microns) IIRC it was call a Nicktane from a guy in Kali. When I changed the filters I would cut them open and the CAT filter caught almost all of the contaminants, while the OEM still looked good. When I first bought the CAT filters from the dealer, the guys in the shop came out and checked it out. They never saw a pickup with a CAT filter.
This is good advice, but would recommend the racor brand of primary filters. There turbine series are super easy to change the filter, (no tools to change elements or drain water, elements are cheap.
I cannot recommend the Mobil brand of oil more than enough. Rotella is not the quality of oil it once was. Mobil is what all of the diesel manufacturers use (cat, man, Cummins, etc. ) to make their oil.

ZecpullOur entire Bus fleet runs Shaffer Synthetic. I Highly recommend it. I have a 6.7 cummins in my Bus last change they went over the mileage ( I drive 90 mile a day) .. and even with 18,000 miles on the change they sent the oil for analysis and it passed showing no metal in the oil.
