Where there's smoke, there's fire!! |
Went to Academy Sports and was looking around. Looked at Kershaw and SOG knives and noticed that they were made in China. Purchased a Yeti 26 ounce rambler and when I got home I notice that it was designed in Texas and made in China. Just about anything I look at anymore is made in China. I sure did not know that Yeti products were made there. This message has been edited. Last edited by: techguy,

Yep, that's the kind of stuff that pi$$es me off. I was browsing through Acadamy's Texas A&M and UT stuff last week. Every damn product was made in China. Being totally politically correct, I voiced my displeasure to their sales staff in no uncertain terms. “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – Barack Hussein Obama, January 23, 2009

Pretty much from I have seen on the YouTubes...all of the stainless steel tumblers from Ozark Trail to Yeti are made by the same ChiCom outfits..no matter what the price...only thing different is the name embossed on them. ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

Yeah but do the people who buy products other than Yeti get a cool sticker that let's everyone know they paid $400 for a cooler? It's a damn shame how people fall for the Yeti marketing. It was in one of my MBA courses where a professor said that Yeti was actually priced lower than what we see now but they weren't selling. They raised the prices to give the illusion of distinction, marketed a lot more and that's when sales really took off. _____________

Why is this a surprise? The US doesn't manufacture anything beyond single-material items; easy to handle, low-skill workers, and a supply chain that isn't too complex. It's been like that for 30+ years. Western European countries subsidized various trades to 'preserve their heritage' and naturally to retain jobs and Asia provided low cost labor and zero environmental regulations, not to mention a completely integrated supply chain. A US made Yeti tumblr would likely cost 2x what it goes for right now.

Double walled stainless mug ain’t exactly the pinnacle of technology. I got a couple of most likely counterfeit Yeti mugs for $19 a piece with nice graphics straight from China. They don’t leak or nothing and the liquid comes out the hole in the lid. Donuts by Wayne Wilson, on Flickr Here is a thought, don’t charge 2-3x what something is worth and you don’t have to worry about counterfeit products cutting in n your business. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Didn't Yeti sue RTIC for making a copycat? I have a couple of tumblers but they're the Walmart Ozark Trail brand. Works well enough for me. _____________

I've never understood the reasoning behind spending that much money for a cooler, A COOLER! I'm not cheap by any means but could never do it myself but don't begrudge anyone who does, it's there money. It's kids like you, who make this bus late.

If you do a "knife search" on Kershaw's website, one of the filters you can select is "Made in the USA" to ID the models made here. For the difference of a few bucks, the Made In USA are my go-to ones.

Made in China, but the price remains the same. THAT really pisses me off. Is shipping really that expensive? Slight drift.....GF works retain in a large clothing store. Couple from China came in looking for article of clothing made in the USA. After an hour of searching, they found NOTHING. All clothing made in China. Brooks Brothers clothing....made in China and the price still high. Can we blame this on Hillary? ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

Staring back from the abyss |
Yeah, a couple of years ago I went looking for a good cooler. The sales guy at the sporting goods store was doing his damndest to sell me on the Yetis. I told him if I was going to spend that much money for a cooler I'd just go over to Lowes and buy a refrigerator. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." The price is not determined by the cost but by what the market will bear. It really is as simple as that. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I'm drinking out of an RTIC one right now. It says "Made in the same factory in China."
No but we can blame a lot of it on Bill. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

It is sad how it is hard to find things made in the U.S.A. We have gone from a nation of production to a nation on consumption. NRA Benefactor Life Member

No, blame it on stupid consumers who still pay the same price for a Brand label long after it has been made in China. Supply, Demand, and willingness to pay.
