My daughter just texted my Wife that its expected to reach 116 degrees today.
She is the General manager at a high end restaurant in Napa CA.
She does not think they will be able to stay open because of the amount of energy that they will have to consume to run the restaurant. Apparently they just made it yesterday when it was only 106 degrees.

I reminded her that "When I was a boy".

Yep, it's 99° where I'm sitting right now, and expected to hit 107° today. Even wondering whether I should go to the dojo tonight.

Still planning on doing my weekly range trip, though. What better way to enjoy the heat? Wink

Many of my friends who have not been able to escape still live in the east bay and in the Central Valley. 110-115 today. Parts of Livermore had no power for better than 12 hours. A good friend has solar and no battery bank. He told me that since it’s attached to the grid he has no power when PGE shuts down despite his rooftop solar panels. Apparently solar only works if your independent of the grid. The best part is the local Facebook page for that town and the ignorance of how power is made is astounding

CA imports like 25+% of their power more than any other state. And good luck ever getting new power plants or even water storage lakes that can double as power generation built.

My oldest daughter and her husband live in Livermore. They flew in late last night from Minneapolis.

We have not heard from them yet.

As I sit here in Pleasanton it’s 112.

Yesterday it was 116.

We have solar and two Tesla batteries on our power wall.

We are good to go regardless if the power goes out. Even though we are connected to the grid we rarely use or rely on it.

It’s a nice 73 in my house!

And people complain about Texas heat. Yep, we had a hot July. lots of 100 degree days, August was a wonderful weather month. Lots of rain and 80's. September is the same, except 5 or so degrees cooler.

When I arrived home, my car registered at 114*. I set my thermostat for 76* but it seems to be stuck at 78* due to the heat soaking through the roof.

I was out there in 1977 and it was that hot then. Except San Francisco. It must be the heat from all the batteries charging

Not sure what "option" is for PC. But people can figure it out when they're asterisks.

Or ALT-0176 (on a PC). Or if on an iDevice, hold down the zero and select the degree symbol.

I say we cut off their water supply as well. They won't build more desalinaztion plants,
shut down power plants. You realize that taxpayers from responsible states are going to
bail them out. You reap what you sow. I really do feel sorry for conservatives who live
there. It's not so easy for every responsible family to just pack up and leave.

When I lived in Foster City we didn't have AC, hot days were not nice, even with low humidity, few people in SF proper have AC, for the most part you never really need it.

If I was there it'd be a good time for a road trip to a Casino in NV for the week...

I live in Napa but, just returned from a weekend in San Diego where the unusual humidity there along with the heat made things...stultifying.

Outside of San Francisco and communities along the Bay, 80F+ is normal this time of year, with 90F+ not unusual for places like Concord, Livermore, Santa Rosa, Fairfield/Vacaville and Napa. What's unusual is this heat wave has been going on for nearly a week with 4+ days of 100F+, households without AC suffer greatly, can only imagine how they're doing these days. Communities in the Central Valley and the lower parts of the Sierra are taking it on the chin
