I'll ask the Vet about this one. According to on-line sources it can be a subcutaneous injection, which I have done frequently in the past, but it's not yet approved for cats. Vets are apparently using it on cats, but we'll see what my guy says. Turns out he's out of town today.

As good as Kai is at taking pills, I'd much rather do shots a couple times a month, and not have the regimen of twice-daily pills.

I apologize for not mentioning that. While considered "off label" in cats, it has been widely used for many years, and though there are some concerns with prolonged bleeding times, it is generally well tolerated. If your vet needs a protocol, then a quick VIN search will offer some suggestions

I have had good luck with using the small tins of tuna or chicken to get my cat to take powdered meds.
The smell of the tuna causes a cat riot.

Dart gun?

The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Unfortunately, all my cats are immune to tuna, garlic, all the usual mixing stuff.

My vet advised to always put a pill or capsule in one of the greenies pill pockets, or even pinch off a piece of the pill pocket to cover the pill, and put it waaay back of the throat so it will be swallowed. The idea is that they will totally swallow it that way - a pill by itself can sometimes get lodged and be very irritating or damaging to tissues. I have put powder and even a small amount of liquid medication in the pill pockets and had success administering it that way.
Good luck, and good on you for taking such good care of her.

My 34 years of cat pilling - say size (bigger are much harder to deliver) and surface covering (smooth like the outside of an 81mg aspirin) make a big difference in how well it slides. Right now we're doing 1/2 baby asp & 1/2 a heart med via concealment in a small amount of pill pocket, buried in a TSP of wet cat food. Inspect the pate everytime - and if necessary use the jamb what is left into the back of the mouth.
then clamp the mouth shut and blow on their nose while rubbing the throat in front to stimulate a swallowing. My wife is MUCH better at this (small hands and fingers) than I am, but am batting 1.000 on pill delivery this year :-)
We have also had the pill converted to a gel for application to the inner ear - but treatment meds vary dramatically based on malady.
Good Luck!

Step 1. Medicate yourself.
Step 2. Medicate yourself more.
Step 3. Forget about medicating the furry cuisinart.
