A terrible story, but she was found safe.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/jay...l-bus-complaint-says

Jayme Closs’ accused kidnapper began his plot to abduct the 13-year-old girl from her Wisconsin home after randomly seeing her get on a school bus one day, a moment when he said “he knew that was the girl he was going to take,” according to a chilling criminal complaint revealed Monday.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, told authorities he spotted Closs for the first time after he stopped behind a school bus on Highway 8 while he was driving to work at the Saputo Cheese Factory, where he worked for only two days. He didn’t provide a specific reason why the 13-year-old was his selected target and the complaint doesn't provide a date for the chance encounter. Soon after, however, Patterson says he purchased a mask to use in the abduction.

“The defendant stated he had no idea who she was nor did he know who lived at the house or how many people lived at the house. The defendant stated, when he saw [Jayme Closs], he knew that was the girl he was going to take,” the complaint stated.

Patterson was charged Monday with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, kidnapping and armed burglary after police captured the 21-year-old following Jayme's escape from the Gordon, Wisconsin house. His bail was set at $5 million cash.

The alleged kidnapper detailed his plans to abduct the teen, despite knowing nothing about Jayme or the Closs family prior to the incident, the complaint says. Patterson told cops he had never contacted Jayme on any social media sites and only learned her name and her parents' names from news reports after he had imprisoned her in his northern Wisconsin cabin.

“Detective Nelson reports the defendant confessed to killing James and Denise Closs, and kidnapping [Jayme],” the complaint stated.

According to the criminal complaint, Patterson visited the Closs home two times before the fatal Oct. 15 shooting, but was scared off by lights and “people walking around the house.”

He said he “put quite a bit of thought” into the kidnapping to avoid getting caught, including stealing license plates and shaving his head so he wouldn’t leave DNA evidence at the home.

Jayme told detectives that on the night she was kidnapped, she was asleep in her bedroom when her dog began barking. She woke her parents up and her father went downstairs to find Patterson, dressed entirely in black, armed with a gun. Jayme said she and her mother went to hide in the bathroom.

“[Jayme] stated she heard a gunshot and knew her father had just been killed,” the complaint stated

Her mother called 911 — which authorities previously detailed — but hung up when Patterson found them hiding.

“Patterson told her mother to put tape over [Jayme’s] mouth, which her mother did, and then Patterson shot her mother” while they were both in the bathtub, according to the complaint.

Jayme said Patterson put her in his car's trunk and drove away. As they left the scene, she said she heard the sirens of police cars.

While held captive at Patterson's home, Jayme said he left multiple times to attend Christmas festivities, and other times had friends or relatives over. On these occasions, he would make her get under a bed and trap her in the location by placing heavy weights on various household items. On Jan. 10, he told Jayme he was going to be gone for 5-6 hours. It was then she made a break for it.

“[Jayme] stated she was able to push the bins and weights away from the bed and crawl out. [Jayme] stated she put on a pair of Patterson’s shoes, walked out of the house, and walked toward the road to a woman,” the complaint stated.

The teen approached Jeanne Nutter, a retired child protective services worker who was walking her dog at the time. Nutter brought Jayme to a neighbor’s house and called the police, who decided to take Jayme to a secure location until Patterson was caught. While en route, the police officer transporting Jayme saw a red car that matched the description of Patterson's vehicle. Jayme said she wasn't sure if that was the car, however, the officer alerted other cops to the vehicle anyway.

Soon after, a different police officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle, which Patterson was driving. It's believed Patterson may have been out searching for Closs.

He was taken into custody without incident and is due in court at 4:30 p.m. EST Monday.

second part to the story

GORDON, Wisconsin – When Jayme Closs showed up at their doorstep, the Kasinskas family sprung into action, taking two steps before most anything else. They called 911. And they grabbed their firearms, in case the kidnapped teen's abductor was in pursuit.

Kristin Kasiskas told Fox News that she and her husband immediately recognized the 13-year-old Wisconsin girl whose October kidnapping captivated the nation when a neighbor, Jeanne Nutter, frantically knocked on their door at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

“When our neighbor Jeanne came in with Jayme, she said: ‘Get a gun. We don’t know if he’s after us,’” Kasinskas said. “So we were armed and ready in case this person showed up.”

Closs escaped 88 days of captivity -- authorities have identified her suspected captor as 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson -- after he allegedly murdered her parents and kidnapped her. Closs gave neighbors and police a description of a car that Patterson was said to be driving, and police captured the suspect quickly. Authorities suspect he was driving around, trying to find the escaped teen.

Kasinskas said that three officers initially arrived at her home. They took Closs to safety and told Kristin and her kids to get away from any windows in case the suspected abductor came to their home.

“My kids and I – we went downstairs,” she said. “My husband was asked to stand guard at one of the doors on the upper floor. [Patterson] was then arrested not that far away from our house.”

I live in Wisconsin, and her disappearance and location efforts have been highly publicized. I'm thankful that she's alive, and feel terribly for what she witnessed, and possibly ensured. Jayme lived in a small town, as do we. Goes to show, there's predators everywhere, and you can't be too careful.

Wow. Glad she is alive. Can only imagine what she has gone through, and will continue to go through.

I have lots of thoughts of what else to say, but I'm sure it's not much different than any of you. Evil exists.

Patterson was a serial killer in the making. Lucky he got caught on his first criminal action.

I’ve been following this story but had not seen the first article of how the creep selected her.

Glad she was found alive and that the former social worker and neighbor took her in. I’ve tried to put myself in the shoes of the family who received the knock on the door and that her murderous captor may be coming. There would definitely be some ARs coming out of the safe and my chest carrier would be going on.

A little over 20 years ago, I designed and managed construction of a new oil & gas operations building that would be manned 24 hours per day. It had a few parking spots and an entrance from outside of our 6’ tall fence with barb wire on top. In its first year of use, in the middle of the night the operator was startled by a frantic pounding on the door. At the door was a naked woman who told him in Spanish that she had been raped and escaped her rapist. He let her in and called 911. We were only allowed pocket knives at work and he said that it was an extremely long few minutes waiting for the LEO response to the 911 call only being armed with a pocket knife.

Even if he doesn't succumb to "prison justice", he will be looking over his shoulder and never know a day's peace for the next 50+ years. Good

Gordon is about 90 minutes from us. From what I'm hearing reported he seen her get on the school bus once and he decided then he was going to have her. He made 2 attempts before he was successful he was scared off both times. Third time was the charm for the creep.

She was going to be the next girl in the box story from what it sounds like.

I heard this today. I frankly thought she was dead. Statistically, she was dead. I remember when Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped. Mrs DF and I have children her age. I just knew she was dead. Used and killed. Killed like Adam Walsh. The story and how she was abducted is the stuff of dread for parents with youngsters. When they were actively trying to solve the case, I would tell the radio she's dead. Dead like Jon Benet Ramsey. I felt helpless, hopeless for her and her family.

I was driving when the news flash came that they had found Elizabeth alive. I became emotional with relief because of how I had associated her fate with my boys. All these years later my dread at these stories has attenuated. But the news today still made me smile for her even though what she must have endured is unspeakable.

Yes. As the father of daughters, the brother of sisters, and the son of a mother with a life of distress, I pray for the healing of her mind.

For, I have seen and experienced the damage.

Just heard there was no prior contact. He saw her get on a school bus and that started it in motion. He did not know her name until after he abducted her. I guess he had worked with her parents for a month a few years back at a processing plant. But that connection had nothing to do with him targeting her.

Apparently Wisconsin abolished the death penalty in the 1850’s. What a shame. If there is any case that deserves it, I can’t imagine much worse than kidnapping and double murder. Hopefully some prison justice will be meted out quickly for the Wisconsin taxpayers.

I Hope this girl can get the mental health help she will likely need.

I think he'll eventually get a dose of what Jeffrey Dahmer and Jesse Anderson got in prison.

In addition to being on the receiving end of a lot of prison sex.

He won't make the year in prison. As stated above, I also believe that he will be Dahmer-ized!
Hopefully slow and painful, and if it takes a few times, all the better!

Seems weird that he didn’t learn the name of his obsession until after he’d kidnapped her, even though he’d even been to their residence (stalking/reconnoitering) twice. Did it say the amount of time that transpired between him seeing her and the actual kidnapping in any of these articles?

Normally I’m in favor of the death penalty, but in this case I think I’d rather see this piece of crap be brutalized daily for the rest of his miserable existence in a prison than get the easy way out! Let the other inmates rip his asshole on a regular basis such that he shits himself anytime he stands up to walk somewhere!

Am I being too harsh? I really don’t think so, but maybe I am...
