My #1 grandson has finally completed his training. He is now a DoE Pro-For (federal protection force) at SNL (Sandia national laboratory).

Issued a brand new M27(HK416) along with a brand new G17. Qualified with both and night vision.

Recruits from several different sites were also at the training, but only SNL and LANL(Los Alamos national laboratory) were issued hk416s. The recruits from all the other sites received colt m4s.

The G17s have irons, no optics.
M27 has a small aimpoint.

I'm proud he made it through the training.
Some didn't.

Very cool! I will probably meet him at some point.

The ProForce shooting team seems to consistently beat the other DOE security forces in their competitions. Smile

A guy I served with in the Air Force (at the time, his job was Security Police/Security Specialist) and he went into DoE after getting out of Air Force. He enjoyed his new job.

I want through an Active Shooter Instructor Course in around 2003 and my partner was ex-Air Force and current DoE Protection. Lets just say all the toys he brought to class were interesting: MP5 with suppressor, M4A1 (3 round burst) with suppressor, and Glock 17. Apparently, at least at that time, OSHA was requiring suppressors for Federal law enforcement and security positions (excluding pistols).

Good luck to your grandson, his job is one of those that has the "Dear God, not on my watch or shift" prayers.

Those DOE guys visited my work location some years ago to make a pickup and they weren’t playing around. All armed to the teeth!

The security at Oak Ridge is like that too. Not playing.

40 years ago I worked at a very secure CONUS facility that got frequent visits from VERY heavily armed DOE nuclear materials courier guys in the SSTs.

It's comforting to read that DOE still issues its security forces good weapons.

The DOE guys are no joke. DOE teams routinely place towards the top of the finalists in the various national/international SWAT competitions.

(Likely has a lot to do with the fact that they have few duties other than training...)

Cool!

I've been to many of places while doing on-site IT repair. The most heavily armed place I've ever been to was the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta.

Congrats to your grandson!

Congrats! My niece is a PhD mathematician at San Dia. Her husband is an engineer there too (formerly with Space-X). They have two kids so we appreciate the security your grandson and others provide.
