Need help identifying location in old picture

4x5Need help identifying location in old picture
I was going through some of my dad's old things, and I found some pictures that I think he took when he was a teenager. Can anyone look at this picture and tell me where they think it was taken? Does this look familiar to anyone? I remember him telling me his family went on a trip to Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada in the mid 50's. Could this be from that trip?

SHOOTIN BLANKSOK. That might be a record. I've seen some amazing responses in 14 years and the knowledge on this forum always blows my mind. But that identification in 6 minutes takes the cake.

sigfreundI can’t dispute the claim, but I don’t see the skyline resemblance in the photos (other than a bunch of rugged mountains in both).

Me either. Peaks and valleys are different.

DonDraperDefinitely looks like the northern Rockies but doesn't match that picture posted. Any more pictures?

SFCUSARETIt would seem to match if the original photo was taken from the reverse side of that range

rusbroI bet there are thousands of similar ridges in the world, maybe even the US alone. To me, the buildings and trees around them are also key to figuring out where it is. Looking at mountains seems kind of like looking at clouds - so much similarity to be found, but almost infinite variation, too.

No. I've seen the first response and it was correct in under a minute. I can't remember what it was but it wasn't a soft lob question either.

rusbroThe closest ridge/peak in the background appears to be pretty close to the buildings, and there are trees almost all the way up it. I don't see where in the photo of Lake Louise those buildings could be that you could get that shot. I could be wrong, but I haven't been able to puzzle it out.

casIf you look close, you'll see a big lake in one photo, but not in the other.
So the skyline isn't going to look the same.
You could also say it looks like the Alps, but unless dad and been there on vacation too, you kind of rule that out.

Yellow JacketAlso, if you go to the link that was posted you will find out that the campground is about 3 miles from the lake. Pictures shot from different vantage points aren't going to necessarily line up.

DennisMIt might very well be the Lake Louise area in Banff... just not from the campground/vantage point in the second photo.
I'm looking at a topo map of that area. Any related photos on hand that might have a few other peaks/features?

Been there. The Lake Louise photo was taken at ground level at the hotel. Here's a wide shot

That's the only picture of the scenery. All the other pictures are of wildlife and a gas station.
