Looking for a new grill.
10 years ago I bought a Charbroil infrared grill. All the "infrared" innards have rusted out and they want as much for replacements as the grill costs so I'm "in the market".

Here are my requirements:
Run on bottled gas
Be as maintenance free as possible
Easy to clean.
Smoking is not a requirement but would be nice should I ever go that way.

Please don't give me your "Charcoal vs. Gas Vs. Wood" opinion because I like the freedom of gas.

In before the other 25 Weber Genesis replies. I've owned two. One a hand me down from parents, lasted 20 years, only replaced due to wanting something shiny and new. My current on is on year 10. I've replaced the grates (under warranty) and the ignitor (at my expense). Smoking on it is a pain in the but, requires setting it up for indirect cooking, and using a smoke box which requires frequently adding more wood hunks and watching for flare ups then splashing box with a bit of water. Smoking can be done, but you can't really walk.away and set it and forget it.

I will also say Weber, one of which I do not own but when I was visiting my dad I used his and compared to my $199 Lowes special it was night and day.

TEC Infrared, but be warned not inexpensive. I have a TEC G-SPORT on a stand for 15+ years, recently just rebuilt it for roughly $450 in parts from TEC. Built in US (Carolinas I believe). If you grill hot/high heat this thing works great.

I’ll likely get a pellet smoker grill combo to complement it this year.

Buy a Weber Genesis, at Ace Hardware, and be sure to bring it home in a Toyota Pickup, and have your Garmin GPS Camera running as well as a Glock 17 handy for protection with Hornady 230 grain high speed SD ammo at 1050 fps and 650 pounds of pressure ready with a Trijicon Red Dot RMR set to activate on motion in case you have to pull it, I'd also keep a fixed blade Tanto damascus 6 inch blade at the ready in case you get attacked and can't get your gun off, oh and don't forget to wear body plates. Big Grin

I have the Weber Genesis, it's been a good LP grill, replaced the favor bars once and they are due again, the bottom is rusting and I've seen bits fall off the base due to rust, it's kept undercover on my back patio in FL, so no snow, but some rain. All and all a decent grill for the money. However even though Weber is IL based, most of the parts for the Weber Sprit and Genesis lines are made in Guangdong China.

If where it's made is of concern then

I have an older Weber Genesis with 3 lateral burners that works great, I cooked on a newer Genesis II with 4 fore-aft burners over the weekend, and it was even better.

I think the LP ones get hotter, but maybe my natural gas line doesn't flow enough, or I need the pressure turned up a smidge.

NG has less BTU than LP. Propane will always burn higher than NG.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. Don't expect to buy a grill as you describe for cheap and expect it to last as long and cook as well as a grill that costs 2x. Weber is the lowest offering I'd go. Minimum Genesis line with the Weber. The cheaper models are not the same quality. They just seem to last forever. Sure you've got to replace some parts. Ignition sparkers (2-3) years, grills when you get tired of cleaning them, same with flavor bars and a few other "in the heat" parts. All are available from Weber or a ton of aftermarket sellers.

Also in the market - I'm in a Weber vs Napoleon debate.
What say ye?

Napoleon is the absolute winner.

Have a buddy with one. It is an excellent piece of equipment. Can do gas or charcoal which is nice. They are very high quality.
When it is time for me to get a new grill I will be getting one.

I am in the Weber camp. I am on my second Weber, and the only reason I bought another is my parents wanted mine so I gave it to them and they still use it and I got a new one.

I just changed out the burners on my 20-year old Genesis Gold. Changed the igniter once too. Mine is LP, and has been worth every penny.

It sits out, no cover, year round. I shovel the snow away to grill in the winter.

Bought a Weber Genesis for Father’s Day. I’m happy with it, just use it for burgers and what not . Steaks go on charcoal

I don’t know if this will help you or not or even count in this conversation. I got rid of my grill and went with an outdoor Blackstone griddle. Best thing ever IMHO.
