Difference as far as allergens or odor elimination? I have a couple of Honeywell filters and they definitely help remove normal household odors.

I haven't noticed a reduction in dust, but then again I don't run mine every day. My furnace filter catches way more dust than the air purifier.

Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
After lots of reading I bought this in July. Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier with True HEPA and Eco Mode https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B...p_apip_KhxXZmtNFJtpw Was in the top 3 of pretty much every head to head comparison I came across. It seems to do a pretty good job. I clean the 2 washable filters monthly and they have quite a bit on them much like dryer vent stuff along with quite a few of my wife’s long hairs. HEPA filter is supposed to be replaced at 6 months. Not sure how to gauge this. It is darker than bleach white new but looks nothing like my furnace filters after 3 months. Not sure how to really know how much it is really pulling and if it makes a difference. We had no odor issues so that is not a metric. The kids seems to have less snotty noses this year so far. I have it in the upstairs hallway at the top of the stairs. I run it on high once a week during the day hoping to draw some stuff up from downstairs. Run it on medium the rest of the time. Medium has a decent noise that acts as a single white noise machine for the boys bedroom being that it is in the hall. On low it is pretty much silent. Make sure to remove the plastic on all of the filters before running it. I did not and even on low the thing sound like a rocket ship. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I have three Winix filters in our house and am generally pleased. Filters are spendy though.

We have used them for cigarette smoke, dust and pollen, in a family with lots of inhalant allergies and irritability. Used a few days ago as neighbors were having a cigar smoking convention next door, and our windows don't seal well. Worked great for removing the cigar smoke odor. By the way also have several Festool HEPA vacuums. They can be used for lead paint abatement, other toxic fume or particulate issues. Have used to remove rodent feces without fear of spreading disease. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I bought the exact same one for my daughter and her family. I like how with the Auto setting it runs on low and only switches to medium or high as needed based on what it’s picking up. That way it saves electricity but better yet it’s almost silent most of the time and you only hear it occasionally. Supposedly it also reduces the operating costs significantly with no loss in filtering effectiveness, or at least that was what one of reviews said when I was researching the various offerings.

Old thread, I know, but I did a search before posting a question on air purifiers. Am considering one. In the spring and other times of year I can go thru a box of Kleenex really fast. I have no idea what causes it, but if an air purifier can help with that, I want one. Any updates on this old thread? --------------- Gary Will Fly for Food... and more Ammo Mosquito Lubrication Video If Guns Cause Crime, Mine Are Defective.... Ted Nugent

I spent years working in a hospital pharmacy. First we just had a clean air hood with a big heap filter, air blowing straight out to keep a clean area for preparation of sterile products. Standards changed and we had to have a "clean room". We had gone through a hospital remodel and a completely new pharmacy built, and had requested this but administration shot it down, so we had to retrofit the new construction about a year later at a much greater cost. We retained our old hood, to make sure of cleanliness. For the retrofit we had to have a hepa installed in the overhead ductwork with its own fan, to move air in any quantity requires power and that means noise, The electrician said power consumption for what was a 8x10 room was out the roof. If you art thinking about hepa consult a hvac pro who knows something about filtration. Personally I get some of the rather high dollar high effenciency filters for my central air/heat and let it go. Hepa has it's place in specialty uses, but I think is impractical and expensive for home use.

http://www.mechreps.com/PDF/Merv_Rating_Chart.pdf As to the question of noticeable difference, is somewhat subjective of many variables and sensitivities of each person. Will the air quality improve? A relative yes. Another look at what is the source and cause of the issue to correct. Is the home in a negative pressure? this is critical to know, indoor air particulate volume can exceed the volume of particulate outside. Also should look at the filter rating on your main unit and possibly improve there. Caution, typical residential units are not capable of moving the proper amount of air with a high MERV rated filter. Damage to your compressor can occur due to low air flow. Should discuss this with your trusted technician.
