Then there are others who will never use those. Do some People obtain permission to use Fleetwood Mac tunes on their Y.T. vids ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. People making Youtube videos to make money don't use copyrighted music, because I believe the music owner ends up getting paid instead of them. People just making videos for the heck of it don't care, they're not making money anyway.

This is correct. The owners of copyrighted music get the ad revenue from videos that contain their music. In a nutshell, the record labels have software that scans all of Youtube to find videos containing their copyrighted music and then file claims on it with Youtube, thus redirecting the ad money to them. It's big business. So your options as a Youtube creator are to use your own background music and keep the money, or use someone else's background music and give them (or more accurately their record label) the money. And some people don't care that their video's ad money is getting redirected over to the record label, they just want their videos to have cool music.

So, The guy that is fighting , biting and scratching to make $1000.00 - $1,500.00 per month with 100,000 subscribers, Can't afford for the money to go elsewhere will always NOT use copy righted music. And The people that are very well off financially will choose to use the copyrighted Music and get giant followers but still get the other Benefits that come their way from sources out side of you tube. Is that the gist ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

There is another option too: royalty free music. YouTube itself has a large selection of royalty free music that creators can use for free, plus there are lots of vendors who supply it as well, some free some paid. At work we pay for subscriptions to Hook Sounds and Artlist. Artlist has some very good music and the subscription we pay for gives us a license for anything in their library, and we can, in theory, monetize with it.

Wow, I never thought about this. My kid keeps begging me to let him “make” a you tube channel, and I don’t even know what that entails. Never even thought about the music. Cripes. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."
