Best OC spray??
My adult daughter is reluctant to carry a firearm. Because of an incident that occurred I am looking into purchasing OC spray for her. She resides in Tennessee and my understanding it it perfectly legal there. Any recommendations. Thanks

I like the ASP "Key Defender", not only because the chemical composition of the OC (Pepper Spray) is strong, but because the device itself can double as an impact weapon. I've been carrying one of these for years and although there's some OC products out there that might be more potent or have a longer "reach", the convenience of having this in hand while carrying it as a keyring make it a good thing to have handy (even if lethal force options are possessed).

Any law enforcement quality brand will work. I use defensive technologies at work and fox brand at home.

I like the fogger deleivery rather than stream as it is easier to score a hit and affect their breathing.

fox has formula called called mean green that will mark them for weeks. I also have a fox grenade that can be used as a fire and forget/area denial tool!!

make sure she is on board with carrying it. If she isn't it will stay in a drawer and not get used. Also consider exposure as a training tool.

Fox spray.

For some reason Amazon wont ship over 1,5 oz to Florida and I prefer the 3oz so end up buying direct from Fox.

Fox Labs is what we're issued. I can attest that it's some nasty stuff.

Just make sure that she understands that if she has to use it, she'll be feeling the effects to an extent as well, especially if used indoors. (This will be amplified even further if you use a fogger like Ronin suggested. I wouldn't recommend that)

Personally, I prefer Foam. Less blow-back on the user than traditional spray, and especially fog. Better for use in confined areas.

I'd suggest something like this Fox Foam with spring-loaded flip top. https://www.amazon.com/Fox-Lab...y-gram/dp/B00L8H028Y

The 1.5 oz cans are small enough to stick in a purse, but still have plenty of capacity (roughly 30 seconds worth of spraying). And the protective flip top prevents inadvertent activation of the button while it's in her purse.

I’ve been sprayed with saber and it was brutal. I’d take a taser a dozen times before I’d get sprayed again. Hell, I’d debate taking a round to the leg before I mess with that crap again. I’m in awe that you’ve been exposed by “saber AND a few others”....I can’t even imagine the fox one....

The second post in by sig 226, I carried this brand AND strength in the jail and it was BRUTAL.

The 1.3% is their strongest formula and its too hot, in my opinion. We carried the weakest formula, 0.2%, but found that it only worked on 97% of inmates. The 1.2% formula is a blow torch in a can, and after we started using the stuff, the inmates completely changes their behavior and became model inmates. Weird.

I carry first defense 1.3% every time I leave the house. I have personally used it or seen it used hundreds of times, and it is AWESOME stuff. Highly recommended. I have total faith in this spray.

I've been sprayed more than a dozen times and have likely deployed OC on well over a hundred combative subjects over the last 20 years.

FOX is BY FAR the most painful thing I've ever been sprayed with. It has also had a remarkable success rate. Be advised however that any effective OC also has the potential for blow back exposure and NO OC will ever be effective on all subjects. Let her know she needs to deploy it and run the other way. It isn't a bad idea to buy two cans and use one as a example. DON'T SPRAY YOURSELF. Just spray some in the air in a isolated location to get an idea of how it sprays, how it lingers in the air, and what it feels like if the wind sends some back your way.

I once almost took myself out of a fight when I deployed OC, the situation escalated, and I ended up running right through a cloud of OC that was lingering in the air like an angry ghost.

I carry Sabre gel spray when walking our GSD—for loose dogs. Fortunately, haven’t had to deploy it. Gel because we live in SE Wyoming Wink

790.001(b)

(b) “Tear gas gun” or “chemical weapon or device” means any weapon of such nature, except a device known as a “self-defense chemical spray.” “Self-defense chemical spray” means a device carried solely for purposes of lawful self-defense that is compact in size, designed to be carried on or about the person, and contains not more than two ounces of chemical.

More than 2oz in Florida becomes chemical weapon and would require a permit for carry and be restricted as a weapon.

Vexor. 15 million SHUs, it's hell in a can.

For comparison, Fox is 5.3 million

The pepper itself doesn't, but the propellant does.

Most brands will be good for ~3-5 years, if they've never been sprayed. Once sprayed, the propellant's life shortens, sometimes down to as little as a few months.

(This is why it's often recommended to get two cans: one to test/practice with and then discard, and another to carry.)

My buddy, Chuck, has been sprayed in training over 60 times. He's a recognized expert in all uses of force. Chuck recommends Sabre Red stream. Our department requires Def Tech.
