On the search for some new black dress shoes. I'm looking for a cap toed boot, and the primary function is to wear with a suit.

I looked at Allen Edmonds and I don't love their current line up for a black, cap toed boot. Has anyone purchased from some of these internet based brands such as Thursday, Wolf & Shepherd, Beckett Simonon?

This is what i'm looking for but ordering from some of these online companies sounds like a pain in the dick and I'd rather patronize a store if possible.

Are you opposed to a Wingtip?
I really liked these
https://www.johnstonmurphy.com...ngtip-boot/9887.html

But have a really wide foot and they were uncomfortable in the lace ups for me.
I got the slip ons and they are very nice

Don't have experience with those lines but if you're willing to cry a little, Alden is where it's at.

I have a pair of nice dress boots by To Boot New York. They offer a wide range of slip ons, cap toes and lace ups. I don't get to wear them much, but when I do they always receive compliments.

Not cap toe but I just picked up a pair of these Bruno Magli dress boots for $300 off retail from Saks outlet website. I have worn them twice and while they will take a couple of more outings to get perfectly broken in I expect many years of use from them.

I have two pair of To Boots that I really enjoy and this current boot search started with a pair of To Boots that I ordered online at a great deal a week ago. Now for the bad news, they don't fit and they're from last season so no more sizes. I ordered this seasons replacement, but at $450, I figured I should possibly look at some other big names for that type of scratch.

I don't mind wing tip, but not for this particular shoe/boot, at least not yet.

I have ordered two pairs of boots from Thursday Boot Company. They were a good value and ordering them was hassle free and they arrived quickly. If they don’t fit, return shipping is free. There are a lot of reviews on YouTube.

I have a pair of Clark’s dress shoes that are extremely comfortable. They make a few dress boot models if the brand interests you.

Alden makes a great shoe if you like their styles. They are very traditional.

By all reports, the quality of Johnston and Murphy is not the same now as it was in the past.

Go to YouTube and watch reviews for every boot recommended in this thread. I'll throw out another name: Oak Street Bootmakers. I'm happy with the pair I have as well as the two pairs of Aldens. I went through a little expensive boot phase a few years ago.

Johnston & Murphy are no longer an essentially hand made, American shoe. They used to be and were good shoes. Now they are factory made, and no better than any other mass-market shoe.
