I'd like to have a smallish (say a 2'x2'?) fire- and waterproof safe to put in my RV for small valuables and paperwork. I think I'd prefer a dial combination as opposed to a keypad. Any recommendations? _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

Is 2'x2' your desired interior or exterior dimension? This one at Lowes is about 1/2 the desired dimensions on the outside. I have one that is full of papers (hanging folders) and at 44 pounds plus paper, it is a bit of a hassle to move around. Going bigger might stress the RV during travel unless placed in understorage or near floor supports. It might be wise to get two small ones like these. You'll also need to consider getting it into and potentially out of the RV. I also theorize that a RV fire will run hotter and faster than a house fire. Your fire ratings for the safe might not be accurate.

I think you will need a very secure spot in the rv to ensure the safe does not fly across the unit on a bump or turn. Cabinet doors will not stay shut on many roads. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

I was thinking of under the bed (or in the wardrobe) bolted to the floor. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

I have a Honeywell 1108W Legal Size Waterproof 1 Hour Fire File Chest that I like. Mine doesn't have the wheel cart which I wouldn't use anyway. I have not verified its water/fire proof capabilities, but it seems good. A penny saved is a government oversight.

I think I’d find a safe in the size I wanted and rated pretty well for fire safety that is also rated pretty well for water proof. Then I’d buy some “dry bags” to hold whatever I wanted that would fit inside the safe. They come in different sizes from Passport sizes up to Bigguns. Google “dry bags for ocean going” and get a good idea. Good luck to you.

A small safe would help with ‘unauthorized viewing’. If it’s for security in the event of a burglary, the usual M.O. is to carry a small safe off. A safe indicates where the ‘valuables’ are located. ‘Hey Billy Bob, let’s take this & scram’. Bolting it down would be of minimal help.
