Think You're Old?
The year I was born, there were only 48 states (Alaska and Hawaii weren't annexed until 1959).

And there were only two genders. The rest were mental health patients.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

“Our actions may be impeded...
But there can be no impeding our intentions or our dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting.

The impeding to action advances action.

What stands in the way becomes the way.”

Shoot, I was 12 years old when Hawaii became a state. I forgot...remind me why we wanted them in the first place?

Yup, same here. I was 4 when Alaska and Hawaii became states.
(I wonder if anyone still has a 48 star Flag?)

I was born in '65, but I have the 48 star flag that covered the casket of my grandfather who served in WW I.

Oh jeez, never thought about that before. I was seven. This and the thread about who was president when you were born really makes me feel old…)

Let's see ... the year I was born

  • The Hindenburg disaster

  • Amelia Earhart disappeared

  • The Golden Gate Bridge opened

  • Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" was published

  • Nylon was patented

  • The first jet engine was tested

When I was born, General Motors still had a steam powered car.

Technically there were only 47 states back then.

Ohio didn't ratify the constitution until 1953. Wink

48 for me too. And our house had only one phone. Rotary dial. Hung on the wall in the kitchen. When it rang, you actually wanted to know who was calling! The number was... 513-426-27XX. Drilled into me by my mother.
