That should be a complete no-brainer. The fact that it even warrants a tweet shows how far the country has slid down the slope. We got a real American president back in office just in time.

Hmmm, the law would have allowed green card holders to vote in municipal elections only.
The NY State constitution reserves voting rights for citizens only.
There are local jurisdictions in other states that allow green card holders to vote in local elections.
Their logic being that people live there, they work there, their kids attend school there and they pay taxes. From that perspective, prohibiting them to vote equates to taxation without representation.

Do they pay Federal income tax? If so, that same (so-called) logic could be extended to national elections. My opinion, the requirement for citizenship should override the "taxation without representation" argument at all levels of elections.

If non citizens want to vote, let them go through the process and become an American citizen, period.

They are free to return from whence they came to vote to their hearts delight.

They probably do pay federal taxes via their employer. However, like the US constitution, the NY constitution reserves voting to citizens.
Green card holders are permanent residents.
They also have 2A rights and can purchase firearms. So some of the federal bill of rights apply to them.
Do not misconstrue my understanding of WHY some jurisdictions permit voting in local elections as advocacy or wishing for furthering voting.
There may be underlying motivations for a green card holder not to pursue citizenship. I don’t know.
I DO see a value in having people invested in their local communities. Nonetheless, the law is the law.
