If I am in need of just internet service, which part of their company would be better, the business offering or sticking to residential?

Not really wanting to down this route due to the stellar reputation I've heard about them on the forum but our options are limited due to the infrastructure in our area and it would actually be cheaper than something like Starlink.

Thoughts both yay or nay?

Business side is much better but the real question is it worth the extra you will pay?
If only Internet is needed and you don't need the Business benefits (Static IP's, no caps, don't have servers, port-blocking issues, etc) then the use the consumer part.
I would also buy my own modem and router as not to incur the reoccurring rental fees for equipment.

I know someone here will come in and say to use another service but I just want to stay focused on your question.

Good Luck.

Can’t say any more than that.

Do you require any of those things?

Yeah, Starlink is expensive and getting more so as time goes by.

Comcast Business High-Speed Internet vs. Comcast Residential service: smschulz pretty much covered it, save one thing: If you need service or support, the Business side is much more responsive than the Residential side. Almost like two different companies.

But you do pay for that.

Contrary to popular belief: You can use your own cable modem on Business Class if you do not have a static IP. Though, from what I've read, it can sometimes be difficult convincing their CSRs of that.

Yeah, I know that and statics is a high priority for me and is a big struggle for me as I cannot stand the ridiculously high prices for their equipment rental.
One reason why I am still on a lower bandwidth ATT connection, and no fiber on my side of the street. Mad
You would be surprised on how well you can actually get by with a lower bandwidth connection (50/12)?
I don't like it but not going to go stupid with unnecessary costs. Eek

No, I wouldn't.

We were on 50/12 until about 2½ years ago. Worked fine for us. Then it was 75/15. Same. Now it's 100/25.

The thing that calls itself "AT&T" these days is a non-starter. No fiber, their copper plant is a complete disaster around here, and "AT&T" was, unquestionably, the absolute worst vendor I ever had, of any product or service, in my twenty-five years in IT Admin. at work.

They own the copper around here and the techs that come out (at least quarterly) to restore service after an outage tell me they have NO plan or desire to replace the lines. They just patch everything that goes wrong. I'll be getting "rural" fiber soon through my Electric Co-op, I suppose.

Same as noted above, the business side customer service is WAY better, night and day really, if that matters to you.

I finally got fed up by Cox residential internet and opened a business acct.

I was totally upfront with the person I talked to on the why I wanted to do so, incompetent tech and customer service, stupid run around with having to send someone to the house when they can see what node is really the issue

Is it twice the cost, I did negotiate that on what I was willing to pay, yes it is.

Ive had zero down time for any extended periods as I did prior, I can talk to someone who can actually fix things on their end easier without an escalation. They are proactive when they see high latency and without me calling sends a company truck, not a 3rd party contractor, out to fix the issue in the main feed line.

I'm satisfied with my decision

maybe it varies by region, but I got a business account because the response on issues is miles better than a residential one. off the charts better.

Business usually has a fixed term agreement as well with auto-renewals for the same term unless proper notice is given, so not as easy to leave.

I have Spectrum residential service (service? really?) at home and Spectrum business service at the hangar. Had to get business because the airport is not zoned residential.

With respect to support, it's like two totally different, unrelated companies. Example: earlier this week, the whole area around my home lost internet service. I contacted a customer NO-service rep to inquire about expected restoral time. They wanted to waste my time, trouble-shooting my modem and router. They had absolutely no idea that there was an area problem; I told them to check "DownDetector," which clearly showed hundreds of customers without service.

Contrast this with the business class -- there was a service interruption due to an inept driver who took out some equipment because she was unable to keep her car on the road while she was playing with her phone. The support people for the business internet service were pro-active. They sent a text message, informing users of the service interruption and stating the expected time of service restoration, and then proceeded to beat that time estimate and get us back on the air quickly.

I'm taking a serious look at switching the home service from residential class to business class.

Nope. Not on Comcast. You have to jump through the same kind off annoying renewal hoops as with Residential.

My residential service and my business service are with Spectrum. Month-to-month, I can walk away at any time from either one with no penalty.

I guess they lightened up. Two locations for me Comcast business was a 1 year minimum.

Oh, they still do contracts, but, they don't auto-renew.

Long time Comcast business customer.

It's almost always up.

We use our own modem

It's fast or faster than we will ever need

Customer support is excellent. If it's not a general outage, they usually have a tech out in an hour or two.

We have 3 VOIP lines plus 100MBs internet. I think it's about $230/month

Circling back to this, thanks for all the replies so far.

If I were to get my own equipment, any recommendations on what I would need to get. I'm mildly tech savvy but don't want something that is too terribly complicated to set up.

As far as some of the additional features I would get with a business account that have been mentioned, we don't need them. I just want a reliable connection with enough speed for our surfing needs, though if the Comcast business CS is more responsive that it definitely a plus.
