Keeping the economy moving since 1964

Moving a heavy item down the stairs to the basement last week with my son helping, I felt a pop in the back of my leg above the knee and for a moment I lost strength in that leg. I am thinking I injured my hamstring. Fortunately nothing is detached and the pain is almost all gone, and I regained full strength. Now I have this nice bruising to remind me that I am too old for this and should hire professional movers next time.

Having felt a "pop" in the back of your leg and with bruising like that, I think not having that looked into might be a mistake.

That's why I train regularly: So I can do stuff like that w/o as much risk of injury.

Years ago I was hauling the trash bins out to the "curb" and grumbled they were heavy. Wife: "We should replace those with ones with wheels." Me: "The day I can't get the trash to the curb is the day we sell this house and move into assisted living."

I eventually joined a gym and got in the habit of working out regularly. Got to the point where, rather than struggling with them I was doing bicep curls with them, taking them down the driveway Smile

Coincidentally I have a physical scheduled for tomorrow morning. This matter will be discussed.

Did that once trying to outrun an infield hit in softball (at the tender young age of 30something). The bruising got much worse over about 4-5 days and then healed on up.

Did you have a doctor looked at it?

A heat pad now would help circulate the blood and hasten recovery.

Many moons ago in my misspent youth, I was on a city league softball team in Atlanta. This thirty something guy hit a double and tried for another base. Half way there he went down screaming and hold his right hammy. Turns out he tore it. He had a bruise like yours for a few weeks. Maybe you did the same with less glory.

When I did that I had to replace a cruciate ligament. No pain on injury.

Welp, it was yesterday morning and was a physical that I had scheduled months in advance. The timing of my injury was "convenient".

My doc looked at it and sent out orders for an musculoskeletal ultrasound. The earliest they could get me in is May 23. Until then there's not much I can do other than don't over exert the leg. Physically it generally feels fine, with some mild soreness and swelling of the leg. Walking incurs no pain at all, but it is a bit sore when I crouch down or get up from a sitting position.

I appreciate you asking.

I had my ultrasound today. No injured/torn or separated tendons, ligaments etc. which is a relief. I have a large muscular hematoma due to injured muscles. The good news is they will heal. It will just take time and not over-exerting it. The next time I move a gun safe I will hire professional movers.

I paid two dudes (from the place I bought it) to move my 3000lbs safe in Sept, from one room to another. They were swearing the entire time, I tipped them hansomly.
Glad your leg will be ok.

I just read the official report that was sent to my PCP:

"Large intramuscular biceps femoris hematoma attributed to grade 3 muscle strain" and "No tendon rupture"
