Not the highest lumen, sharp bezel, weapon mountable flashlight. Just a regular one you would grab first if you needed to have a look under your car or walk to the mailbox at night. The tail switch on my Fenix AA light went out. It was perfect. Single output, under 200 lumens, ran on simple 2xAA batteries. I preferred it to my old 6P. Now I am looking for a simple, general purpose light (or 3) to replace it.

for the money the current plastic 6p SF version is had to beat. It is like $50 and has two settings 15/200 iirc. I think it is discontinued but my fexix LD41 is hard to beat for a good around the house and security light. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

The one that I use the most is Thrunite AAA Ti. About $30, low low & good enough high. Barely bigger than the AAA that feeds it. It & LM Squirt are easy to carry just about anywhere. I like my fenix AA, but it is significantly bigger, it stays on my desk at work or in my backpack when traveling. My Olight seeker pro is really handy in my truck (rechargeable) but again, too big to carry in pocket. Also, my tail switch on Fenix AA went out (battery leak) & it was only about $25 to replace it, so I did.

For the purposes you mentioned. NEBO SLYDE King. It's both a good flashlight AND it slides out and you have a shoplight, has a magnet on the end to stick it on something while working on a car, had red light as well and is rechargeable with an android charger. Around $35.

Coast HP1. A good basic single aa battery flashlight. It can go from a spot light to a flood light very easily. It has a pocket clip and the on/off tail cap switch. Good enough to get the basic job done, cheap enough that if you lose it, it's no big deal. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. I keep a Fenix E05 on my keychain. Works great for a mini. Just looking for the next step up to have laying around the house.

Streamlight Keymate It's always with me as long as I have my keys, and being USB rechargeable is nice. I use October through April, I use it nearly every time I open my mail box (idiot developer didn't put the community mailbox beneath a streetlight). The real bonus is giving it as a gift. I've given all manor of EDC flashlights to relatives, friends, and GFs and they always end up in a glove box, tool box, etc. instead of in their pocket or purse. I have given this as a gift 5 times and 100% are on people's keychains. Headlamp. For general purpose use, the headlamp reigns supreme. If you need a headlamp to work on a project, then you'll also likely need your hands free. I like the Black Diamond Storm for its waterproof gasket, red light, and both a spot mode and floodlight mode. Runs on 4 AAA batteries, and works well with my Eneloop rechargeables. Alternatively, in the same price range, the Olight H1R headlamp is a high output lithium powered headlamp that has a pocket clip (clip to chest rig or shirt pocket) and magnetic tailcap. For cheap household flashlights, Costco has a 3 pack of 500 lumen Duracell flashlights. For a nicer flashlight with the most versatility, the Nitecore SRT-7 (now upgrades to the 7GT) has an infinitely variable 1000 lumen lamp housed in a deep, wide reflector for an even throw over a long distance. The light is adjustable via a control ring, so you can dial down to a low level for walks and then instantly turn it up to blinding to see across the field and back down again without cycling through other settings.

Fenix PD35 tac "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
My main use for a flashlight is walking my dogs and things like that. I found an inexpensive rechargeable no name headlight that's really bright and has lasted several years so far. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I have one of these. It's an old Rayovac swivel head incandescent bulb flash light. I've had it for years. Some time back I put an LED bulb in it which was transformative. Much brighter and longer lived on batteries.

I've got a bunch of Surefires scattered around house and cars. The light I use most in garage, house projects, etc. I can't find a replacement for at a reasonable price. It's an LED model that has both a normal light/lens and a LED bar hidden in barrel. You pull the front apart from barrel to slide and expose that, it works GREAT for projects where you need a broader light pattern and need to be able to stand up a light, or lay down and expose sideways. Like this Slyde by Nebo. You can get them from them for $40, but if you've seen these they aren't Surefire-durable feeling and I've had a couple fail on me. I'd pay $15 bucks and be happy, $20 and hold my nose.... Lesser lumens available for $30, but I'm not loving a rechargeable light. When it goes out, I want to put batteries in and work again now. It's pretty versatile. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Georgeair, You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Any of the Costco Duracell multi flashlight packages. Three flashlights for like $16. Have them scattered around the house, and carry one on dog walks at night. Lose it or break it, no worries. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns.
