pretty easy to see if your amazon purchases are actually coming from amazon versus some other bozo third party vendor

plus - IME amazon's return policy has been phenomenal... they credit my CC as soon as the shipping label is scanned...

i have several go-to online vendors that i trust

No problems with Amazon, Brownells, Midway or Natchez.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

But a friend bought that for me. I never buy from third party vendors on Amazon unless I know the vendor and I can verify that it’s actually them.

Other than that I pretty much only order from MidwayUSA, PSA and Brownells.

I hardly ever buy my cosmetics or narcotics through Amazon. Razz

I am surprised, though, what sorts of things are counterfeited. I would have never guessed there was enough of a market for mini shotshell adapters for anyone to go to the trouble to do it.

I bought a made in the USA Pacific Coast luxury Pyrenees down comforter off of Amazon last week from a third party vendor. I received a cheap polyester filled comforter that was made in China. It also had dirt and make up stains on it. When I emailed the seller they told me they sent the store display comforter by mistake. The return address was a UPS store box in California.

It's tricky. You need to research stuff and be careful.

A while back I ordered a complete set of the original Twilight Zone DVDs. It came in a shrink wrapped box that looked just like what you'd see in Best Buy, but when I watched the first DVD the menu selection and quality didn't look right. When I read the disk creation info from a computer, it revealed they were actually DVD-R copied disks instead of originals.

The seller in my case had drop shipped the product and claimed not to know it was counterfeit. He agreed to refund my cost including return shipping.

I always read the reviews on anything I'm buying from amazon. Usually someone will out them if their selling crap.

I’d say 75% of eBay is counterfeit stuff.

I had all but forgotten about scam bay! I remember when all the books and seminars and classes came out about how your goldfish could have an eBay business and the fees skyrocketed, the end was upon us! Ha.

I ordered guitar strings from Amazon last week. I had ordered the same ones before, made in NY State. When the order came they were a knock off. The outside box of 3 sets of strings look almost the same as before but slightly lighter in coloring and had the USA MADE on the box. Opening the box, big label, Made in China, different SKU # then what I had ordered but the strings had the exact same name. I sent them back, posted a bad review which Amazon would not post and gave a list of reasons why they wouldn't post them. Nothing of what I posted conflicted with their rules.

I buy lots of stuff via Amazon, including third-party vendors. Some stuff from eBay too. I regularly buy from other trusted vendors (e.g., coffee and NRA targets). And occasionally from some new-to-me vendor. Only an occasional problem – has always been corrected by the vendor. I do “sniff” for suspiciousness when buying from a new-to-me vendor.

Serious about crackers.
