I thought that he was already in prison in Central America for killing someone.

If you get the chance watch the documentary “gringo” about him ( Netflix, prime etc) Dude had a lifestyle that was Strait up bonkers. His Twitter feed was legendary. The entertainment value alone from him was awesome.
