Every members’s mom could pass away and I probably wouldn’t call my mom more. Sounds horrible I know but it’s who I am.

However, every time I read about a pet passing it makes me give my girl more hugs, treats, and time on the couch. Which she normally isn’t allowed.

I read somewhere that dogs who sleep with their owners live longer. Not sure that’s true as she loves her crate, but maybe I’ll live longer if she sleeps with me.

We’re currently watching a documentary on colt manufacturing of the 1911. No idea why she isn’t as interested as I am!

Eight years to retirement! Just waiting!

No one should be conflicted about this.

No pet ever takes more than they give.
All of them love us, and are devoted to us, unconditionally.

The same is not true of people.

Our pets act on mutual bond with regard to their owners, built on trust of instinct, while humans possess the complex moral capacity for conscious malice and calculated selfishness, based on the ability to manipulate for the one's own interest.

No pet I've ever shared life with has stabbed me in the back.

As it should be.
We LOVE our pets and they love us…this is the way.

She's interested all right...just hanging out and being next to you.

I get it. I've put one dog down and it broke my heart. I'm even closer with this one, so I can't bear to think about it.

Moose sleeps in our bed every night, and while it doesn't always do great things for the quality of my sleep, I still love that he does it. He's not the smartest and definitely not the most obedient, but he's certainly the most affectionate dog I've ever had. Having a buddy who will walk 4-6 miles a day with you, run to you and kick you in the nuts with mind-blowing excitement every time you come home from work, and curl up with you on the couch every evening is hard to beat. He's only 3, so hopefully we have years and years ahead with him.

I've had my beloved Roxy for 32 years now and she will outlive me by decades.

I'm afraid I will have to wait for her.

I got her when I was 28 and now I'm 60.

Otto - your post resonates with me and I totally understand it! My dear yellow lab Lily passed years ago and I swore I'd never love another dog. 6 months after her passing we brought home a rescue; a loveable, loving, lug doofus of a dog and I could not love him more. When I read about others losing their beloved pets I feel very much the same as you.
