That hammer drill, and possibly that DeWalt bit, are your problem. We've poured concrete basement walls. They are a stone bitch to drill. The man cave, the way I'm doing it, is going to require dozens of 5/16" (IIRC) holes about 2-1/2" deep into those walls. I bought a Bosch rotary hammer and Bosch bits for it. It turns out there's a massive difference between a rotary hammer and a hammer drill. When I gutted the small room that's to become the man cave I uncovered a crack in the wall that had clearly been leaking water. We had professionals in to remediate the problem. Their method required they drill about a half-dozen holes at an angle through the wall into the center of the crack, and another ten holes straddling the crack. They used the same Bosch hammer drill I'll be using. Was like a hot knife through butter. I drilled my first holes a couple weeks ago--securing the bottom plate of a stud wall to the basement floor. The same concrete as the walls, I presume. Piece of cake. Yeah, that rotary hammer was expensive. But so worth it "America is at that awkward stage. When you're serious about drilling brick, concrete and rock, nothing beats diamond core bits. Believe this is the 3.5" hole, had one 2.5" and the other was 3.5" | |||

You win the enabler award of the day I like to support the local economy, so I just found and ordered a Milwaukee rotary hammer. I'll put it to work soon. “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted.
