I've fixed this dryer once or twice already and now needs another bearing kit and drum glide. Cheap enough and easy enough to do but takes some time, and I wonder if I'm on borrowed time or maybe a new set would be better?

I don't need a fancy set up just a basic washer and dryer so I was looking at Speed Queen. Rebuildable is a plus.

All in all I'll probably fix it again, as it and and the washer have been solid.

Me? I'd fix it, those things will last about the same amount of time in the new one. Maybe replace the belt, and idler/tensioner bearings too while your so close.

Frigidaire or GE? Both use front glides and a rear bearing. I'd repair the Frigidaire, scrap the GE.

Amana is a great basic value line and if you want 20 year reliability buy a Speed Queen pair.

It's a Frididgaire. I don't really want't new one but I figured I'd see what the pros say.

Stay away from Kenmore (I know the prices are 50% off right now) as Sears will be history before the warrant expires and quality is crap. I know as we bought a Kenmore washer in Feb and it's already having problems. It's sad as we have had Kenmore in our family since I can remember. Chris

If you've already fixed it once or twice, get rid of it!!!!!! Buy a Whirlpool or Maytag and be done with it.

Around here it’s Sears or an 80 mile drive one way to look at washers and dryers. I should have made the 80 mile drive, but went with a GE from Sears. It quit spinning and leaving the tub with about 6 inches of standing water about 2 or 3 months later. Getting service from Sears is worse than getting blood from a turnip. I finally got someone up here to fix it under the warranty (only 1 year warranty) and it’s been ok since. Sears is just a ghost of what it used to be.

My dryer (not from Sears) squeaks real loud now. It’s a Hotpoint that’s about 18 years old. Not sure what I’m going to do with it. Call a repair man to fix it or make a 160 mile round trip drive to look at dryers.

This is either a rear bearing or the front bridge/glides and the rear bearing. Easy fix.

I fixed it mostly, now I think it's a heat related issue. Cleaned it and greased what I could, but once it's warmed up it makes noise. It ran quietly all together minus the belt on the drum. Makes me think a motor bearing or possibly blower assembly issue.

Finally fixed.
$10 belt
$17 idler arm/tensioner
$65 blower assembly (only part required)
3 hours time between multiple part replacements, the blower assembly plastic nut failed and took some effort to remove from the motor. Belt and idler replaced trying to solve the tennis shoes in the drum noise. Turns out a screw in the back of the drum was loose. It seemed tight until I got aggressive and then it turned a 1/4 and no more tennis shoe noise.

Over, it was worth it to me to fix. This is the second belt,idler and bearing kit I've put in it, one unneeded heat element and one junction block that melted due to a bad install by the appliance place that also led to the unneeded heat element replacement, it wasn't getting 220v.
