nhracecraftYup, Utterly Ridiculous...It's a spent shell casing that's looks YEARS old!
Unfortunately, NOBODY would care, and NOBODY would be investigating if a spent hypodermic needle were found on the same Elementary School playground!

LS1 GTOHad the thought many time, dropping a couple 9mm cases in a loud bar.
I do know of a deer hunter who, many years ago, went to one of those wand washing place to clean out the bed of truck after a successful nine deer hunt with a few additional deer taken after being dressed out.
He left an intact, nearly thawed deer heart in the corner of the stall.
El Cajon police were there an hour later with the whole place taped off.

Not in Massachusetts, possession of a spent shell casing without a firearms license is a criminal offense.

My coworker when I lived in Calgary went elk hunting and was successful. He had a white truck, field dressed the elk, loaded the meat in a cooler in truck bed, and didn't even make an attempt to clean off the blood that dripped down his tailgate.
RCMP received numerous "murder vehicle" calls on his drive home and were waiting for him when he arrived home. It took only a minute or two to sort it out, but they did leave with the plea "next time, at least take it to a quarter car wash when you get to the nearest town instead of driving all the way home like that."

hberttmankA "rusty bullet casing"? Jeez these fuckin idiots up there can't even the terminology right but they are big on banning it whatever it is. Probably came from a high powered, high capacity, military grade 32 caliber assault rifle.

jhe888I once dropped an empty .22 case in New Jersey elementary school in about 1972. I was just carrying it because I was a kid. You would swear they found a live grenade. I just kept mum because it was clear that was going to be a shit storm. Nothing new in those places.

shovelheadI just found this online. I agree it would be a stretch to charge and prosecute one here on the basis of this cartridge and it’s condition.
Ammunition" is defined under Massachusetts law as cartridges or cartridge cases, primers (igniter), bullets or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm, rifle or shotgun.
Black powder and substitutes Are included from what I also found.

point me to the statue on that one. I once lived there and had an LTC, but when I moved they wouldn't give me an out of state one. SO I dreaded every time I went to my property there that I had a loose round of ammo or shell casing in my truck and spent hours searching. But in looking at the statue I couldn't find anything. Maybe it changed?

In Washington DC the possession of any part of ammunition including an un-primed, fired or un-fired case is a District felony. This includes bottle breachers, etc. made from such evil artifacts. Exemptions for cartridges that match firearms that are registered to guns listed on your carry documentation. But, still, if your range bag looks anything like mine, you might want to take your tourist dollars elsewhere.

rock185I don't think they are stupid at all. They are accomplishing their goal. They are ratcheting down firearms and ammunition regulations so tightly so as to make it so onerous to legally own a firearm, most people will just give up.
I saw somewhere, maybe here, that Massachusetts has just instituted a micro stamping law like California has. They are accomplishing what they intend....
