Gun Safe Recommendation For Kitchen? Login/Join

I have three GunVault gun safes secured in my office, and another in the trunk of my car. With the addition of two small pocket guns, I'm thinking I want a safe in my kitchen so I can reach in, take one with me as I leave the house (my kitchen leads into the garage).

I live alone, but there's a chance that (a) my granddaughter may come to visit with her folks, or (b) worst case scenario, someone breaks in while I'm gone. I don't want a gun just sitting on a kitchen counter top.

GunVault offers a nice little combination lock safe that holds two guns, and my range has them in stock. The trouble I have is that I have nothing in my kitchen that will let me wrap a steel cable around it. In other words, the safe could just be picked up and taken, even if the combination isn't known.

Any recommendations? Or should I just stick to taking the extra steps to go to my office and open a biometric safe there?

Buy top entry gunvault, remove drawer from kitchen cabinet, drill matching holes in drawer and gunvault, bolt gunvault to the drawer, loop the cable around something secure in the cabinet so nobody steals drawer, attach cable to gunvault, and reinstall drawer in cabinet.

Do you normally carry on your person? We don’t have guns about the house, but if I’m wearing clothes, there’s a P228 on my hip.

I did that in my office, and I suppose I could do it in my kitchen, but I'd be losing storage space which is at a premium. What I'm thinking is more short-term: I go for a run, I can stow a gun until I return. I leave for work, I can take it out. If I want to store a gun, the safes in my office will do that.

I'm thinking of the GunVault MV500 or the NanoVault 300.

seems like, carry on your person would alleviate the problem.

It’s what I do.

Pants t go on, gun goes on.

Top of refrigerator would be above the standard reach of a young person.

Cable could encircle a plumbing pipe, and safe be under the sink.

A suitcase style enclosure, not cabled to anything, would be easy to use. The theft of the handgun by the grandkid is not a concern, just access, I presume.

I have 9 grandkids and their friends in and out a lot so I am ever cautious about keeping them separated from my firearms. I also do not allow loaded firearms or live ammo in my classroom, as we often handle guns and dummy ammo in classes. My solution was Barska biometric safes for our carry guns. Not so worried about someone carrying the safe off because when I am not there the gun goes with me, and the collection is in the big safe.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I think some of you missed the mark, but your attempts to be helpful are gratefully received.

I ordered a GunVault MV1050-19. To MikeinNC, I would agree, except that the purpose of the safe is mostly for when pants AREN'T ON.

(I go running, and my EDC is too big/heavy. I also wear lounging gear around the house. The safe I want is a "temporary" storage area for times like these. One reason I bought a Seecamp is so I could have a gun while running).

Ahhh that adds light to the problem.

Yeah I have three micro gunvaults I ordered online. I had one with the biometric doo-dad, but Mrs. Mike’s fingerprints are very light and she couldn’t open the thing...I think they were under $100 online.

That works!

Another option is under the sink and disguised for a little extra security.

Both are bolted down.
