Some time back I bought a Ball brand watch. Since it came from (Jomah??) I assume it is probably gray market. The day/date has quit working and I would like to have it repaired. I understand I will need to do this repair out of pocket, where does the hive suggest I send it to be fixed?

Our own David Truong has a top-notch watchmaker. You may want to get in touch with David at Mimi’s Jeweler.

Another vote for Dave.
Not sure if he's still a Ball dist, but could likely get you pointed in the right direction.

I knew of Dave, but wasn't sure if he offered watch repair. I will contact him.

If he can't repair it, I can. I have a Ball that I had to completely rebuild with the more complicated 2836. Marathon uses the identical movements and I have repaired those also.

The ONLY unique thing about Ball is that they use H4 (extra long) pinions.

The date wheel has lost a tooth and I have a pack of date wheels for 2824 ETA movements.

They sell a lot of grey market watches. Jomashop provides their own two year warranty because the watches don’t come with a factory warranty.

Here is my Ball watch service experience.
I purchased a Ball watch (Engineer II) for my father from David about 15 yrs ago. When it needed service (Tritium dead) I contacted David and he said unfortunately the only option was an Authorized Service Center. I sent emails to 5, 2 got back to me- I sent it to Glezer-Kraus in Il. They said 8 months to get a new dial from Ball in Switzerland but would ship the watch back while I waited. I asked them to add a crown replacement since it was dinged up. 10 months later, they tell me parts are in, I send the watch - it took another 2 months for them to do the work. They didn't replace the crown - it broke a year later and I had to get it repaired myself with the help of a local watchmaker. Some of the tritium on the new dial failed within 3 yrs.

That is my Ball watch service experience. When I bought it, Ball's official service center was in Clearwater Fl, my folks lived an hour away and brought it there once to adjust the band on the spot. They closed it.

Unfortunately this was my father's, he's gone - I got it for him or I would have already dumped it. I still might. No more Ball watches for me.

Doesn't sound like a Ball of fun.

I liked them in my crazy-watch phase, but they have always seemed too niche for me. Not in an A. Lange & Sohne way...
