Another, smaller quake minutes ago. Only a preliminary 3.1, but this one was just across the bay.

I have kinfolk in northern California. I've sent a message querying their condition but have not heard back yet.

That old bridge is from early 1900s. Desantis had that bridge in south Florida fixed in a week. Let’s see how long Gavin take to fix a much smaller bridge.

Ferndale is a cute little town. It’s most successful native is probably Guy Fieri. I’m sure Guy will drive charity events to get the folks some funds.

6.4 is pretty decent. Thankfully that part of the state is quite rural. In a much more populated area could have been a LOT worse.

Rio Dell and Scotia are old lumber towns that have fell into depression since the mills were closured. I want to say Scotia still has one mill left but, its nothing like what it was before the whole spotted owl/tree sitting problems.

My daughter's flight left on time yesterday at 1:00 pm. While most of Humboldt County lost power due to the earthquake, the airport did not. The airport has its own Microgridconsisting of a solar array and battery backup which powers the airport and provides backup power to a nearby US Coast Gaurd station.

Interesting article. PG and E is so bad out there that I'm sure everyone woukd like to have an alternative

Well, I heard back from my kinfolk and learned they'd moved to Minnesota. I guess they have different problems now.

Typical stupid reporting. "No people but plenty of cars." I guess they all drive Teslas. Breathless reporting.

"Oh, and no electricity and no power." Are they not identical?

No. Electricity is one form of power. Natural gas is another, propane is another. Some folks use diesel or other forms of energy storage as “power.”

I had a 5.8 nearly 200 miles away knock my ceiling fan off the ceiling a few years ago.

I happened to be awake late that night watching the boob tube when the whole house started going back and forth. You feel pretty helpless. I'd bet a 6.4, and closer to it, would be a real eye-opener.

I was in Northern California during the Loma Prieta Quake in 1989 doing a job. I was in a town in the East Bay called Castro Valley at the time.

6.9 on the richter scale. I've never seen telephone poles sway back and forth 3 or 4 feet before or since.
