BMW Motorcycle Folks - parts sources?
Neighbor has an '02 (or possibly '03: Build date 09/02) BMW K1200RS that needs a new gas cap assembly.

The two places I've checked on line are $225-$250 plus shipping.

I get that Beemers are expensive, but is that about what he should expect to pay?

I've used Beemer Boneyard in the past and always had good luck.

Excellent resource! Unfortunately, they're currently out of the part I need. Bookmarked them tho.

I have these bookmarked for a potential upcoming project:
I don't see anything specific for a fuel cap assembly for a K12RS

I would assume that the tank should be the same for at least the K12R & K12RS, not sure if the touring models use a different tank. So, that may be an avenue to check as well.
If they were open on Mondays, I'd give a call to my local dealer & get a retail price check, but I'd expect it on the higher side.

Bobs BMW and Max BMW are my go-tos. Max BMW in particular is great for getting free shipping and reasonable prices.

Is this the part you need: Link Filler Cap - BMW-Motorrad (16117685458)

Used BMW parts on Ebay, if the link below doesn't work you could contact the seller appears to be a salvage place. $104.49

Probably opt to spend the extra hondo and get a new part, leaky gas tanks are not a good place to skimp...

True, and the used part doesn't come with new (or any) gaskets.

The K1600 Forum had a thread on these:

Not sure if going keyless makes sense, but some guys don't like the requirement and opt for aftermarket.

It has been a long time since I bought any BMW parts, but way back, there was an outfit called Capital (or was it Capitol?) Cycle.

They started out as a motorcycle messenger service, with a fleet of BMW motorcycles. They had enough motorcycles in the fleet that it was worth their while to establish a presence in Germany, where they bought quantities of repair parts and brought them into the U.S. They expanded and became an alternate source for genuine, though "gray market," parts. We used to buy a lot of parts from them. I have no idea whether they are still in that business.

Located suburbs of Washington DC.

I have had good luck with them. Ditto with Bob’s and MAX BMW. All good options.

K bikes can be a tough one for used parts.

Couple more.

In Ohio. https://re-psycle.com. They also sell used bikes.

And in Germany for the airhead crowd. https://www.siebenrock.com/en/

There used to be an outfit in California, I'll post if I can find it.

Siebenrock is one I've browsed through.
I don't recall the vendor, but there is a US distributor that carries some of their stuff/kits.
