I do not want this job. Swing a what appears to be a 40 foot long metal saw dangling from a helicopter just feet away from high voltage power lines!

That takes some amazing skill and courage! I am not a pilot or have any knowledge of flying a helicopter, but that looks like it takes nerves and balls of BIG cold steel!

I think I remember seeing one of those in a James Bond movie! Talk about lethal.

They do that near my home every couple of years. Pretty neat to see them flying with it.
Something smoked at the end. Looked like the drive box. He may have hit something the saws couldn't cut through? Looks like a dead tree where maybe the wood had seasoned.

This is how they trim the right of way up in Dahlonega. They trimmed the trees at the airport all the time with one.

I heard them going along our roads this week. When you compare the speed or how many cuts the do, it's probably much less dangerous that putting a worker up there on a rope or in a bucket truck. They can also access lines that are on very difficult terrain at the same speed as when they're on a highway, which the manual method can't.

That seemed inevitable, didn't it? And how are the blades kept square to the desired cut line?

The World is Not Enough.... good movie....
Won't be long drones will be doing the work, easily programmed to follow a specific set of GPS directions, wait until you see 50 or 100 of these take off and fly around!

I am curious about the saws. How are they powered?

So many variables, other than that, a good way to cut mid-level branches.

The perpendiculator is disconnected to provide parallel pruning. Probably.
