| I've been working on a memorial story about Trix. Our first meeting with her around 2009 was when some friends called us to say a dog (Trixie) that had been hanging around happened to be back and looked like it had been hit by a car. I took Trix to the vet and we were told she had been shot with buck shot. The vet volunteered their labor for the surgery if we saved Trix. Well of course we were going to save her. Trix had a shattered right shoulder a pellet through her larynx and one into her right eye. We had the leg amputated and the other things patched up as best as could be. There was a lot of rehab, Trix loved the attention so much she came around pretty quickly. My wife is a veterinarian also but not at a clinic so we are able to get meds that Trix needed. Trixie didn't let the loss of a leg slow her, she would go for walks (hops) with us and the other dogs she became the aunt to a further 6 puppies that we have rescued in the past 8 years, teaching them to be good house dogs and keeping them in line in the house. The last 5 pups over the last 4 years have become fantastic dogs. They notice Trixe is missing and have all the toys loaded on her bed. Some day I may get pictures of all 9 dogs we have now. |
