kkinaIs My Building on Fire?
Nah, apparently the local fire crew is just practicing. Didn't know they drove up to random buildings to do this.

shovelheadCourtesy would have been to inform the residents first.

kkina^Well, arguably. I'm just happy to see guys in the public service field taking their responsibilities so seriously.

71 TRUCKI got to ask are you in a house, condo, town house or an apartment?
I would hope if it is a house the least they could have done was ask.
When I was active in the fire department we did drills like this but they were mostly government buildings or business, but never without the owners permission.

kkinaCondo. Maybe they had permission, and I just didn't know about it.

ryan81986We usually ask permission first. We won't notify residents if it's a residential building, but we'll usually at least do a courtesy call to the management company. When it's new construction of a large residential or commercial structure we'll almost always do it.
Ladder placement can be tricky so it's good to have a general idea in the back of your head with the high risk properties in your area.

kkina^Eh? Clue to what?
Our management board is usually very good about informing the residents about things like this, which is why I was surprised. However, it was only a 5 minute deal that didn't inconvenience anyone or require any action on our parts, so perhaps they just skipped the announcement. More than fine with it.

No fire, I'm guessing...
Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

kkinaAh, that makes sense. Actually I didn't really think it was a fire, as there would have been way more noise and excitement. My first thought was that someone's kitty was stuck on the roof.

MikeinNCWe used to pelt them with water balloons when I was a cop. The ongoing battle between hosedraggers and cops was one of the fun things about being a cop.
And one of my best friends is a retired hosedragger.
