I chose opt 3 which by the time everything was done cost almost $6,000. This included the all in one eyedrops (which Medicare doesn't cover) but easier to keep track of than 3 different drops over 3 weeks for each eye, and the eyes done 2 weeks apart.

Was your “option 3” the “Crystalens” product that I mentioned a couple of posts above?

No it was not Crystalens, I'm thinking it was an Anchor product.

Maybe this one, with “anchor-wing haptic design”?

I’d really like to know. It sounds as though the result of your cataract surgery was uncommonly good.

There is an easy cheap solution to perfect cataract correction surgery and without a spare pair of readers or distance viewing glasses. I had it done 3 years ago to each eye. I can read easily #9 sized print on a computer at 18 inches and immediately look out my window to see which a military jet is turning as it climbs in the sky 38 miles away. I see no halos at night or other vision problems. Medicare paid 100% except for a $60 prescription for anti-infection prescription.

I had my left eye sighted for reading and right eye set for distance. It took me 5 visits to different ophthalmologists to find one who would do it my way. Recommended by my son-in-law. I first tried this out with contact lenses in my late 20s. I detest unnecessary upselling.

Email me for a phone number if you wish to discuss.

I went with your option 1. Updated this thread after the final checkup:

And here's another cataract thread the OP may find helpful:

$7,000 for both eyes to forego glasses would be a deal. I had cataract surgery and went cheap. I still had to have transition glasses. When it was my wife's turn, we spent for the corrective lenses.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Where did this number come from? That’s like a surgery every day for 150 years or at least 75 years if just counting each eye?

It's possible, for a high volume surgeon near the end of his career. It's common to do 40 - 50 surgeries per session, with 40 weeks / year equals 2000. Over a 25 year career that would equal 50,000. As an aside, over 40+ years, I've worked with three high volume surgeons and one low volume (very early on in my career) You want a high volume guy (it's almost always a male) even with the assembly-line vibe to the process. The low volume guys make too many mistakes.

I had the Vivity (sp?) Lens installed when I had mine done. It worked out very well but my close vision is shot. Have to wear readers for menus and computer and some apps on my phone.

I thought I'd post an update.

In short, I'm thrilled.

I just had my 2nd 4-week checkup. My eyes were one done week apart, and thus my follow up visits followed that.

I just tested at 20-25 vision, and I am perfectly fine with it. At the end of the 2nd 1-month follow he showed me the difference between 20-25 and 20-20 during my eye test.

There is some difference, of course, between 20-20 and 20-25 when I look at the eye chart, but it's not much. I' happy where I am.

My night vision improved, I had some issues with "halos" around lights at night which was an irritating distraction when driving at night. That's gone now. I see quite well while night driving.

My astigmatism was corrected during each eye surgery.

My eye results at arm length (computer usage) is just fine, no issues at all.

My eye results at elbow length (reading a menu or book/magazine etc.) requires the el-cheapo readers/cheaters.

Doc explained that I could, if I wanted, get a new pair of prescription glasses to bring me to 20-20 and along with bifocal lens I would be good to go from elbow length to infinity without the use of cheaters.

I think I'm just going to continue now with the way it is. I'll use the cheaters/readers for up close reading. I'm really satisfied with my 20-25. I have a 6 month follow up and we will reassess then.

When I walked out of the eye surgery center immediately after my 1st eye was done, I was absolutely amazed at how much brighter the White colors were and also how much brighter and more vibrant the colors appeared. I have beautiful flowers and such in my landscaping, including a lot of rose bushes and it was such a pleasant surprise to see how much more beautiful the flowers and blooms appeared. Wow!

The eye surgery was a big fat nothing burger. It only took about 10 minutes per eye. Quick, easy, painless, nothing at all.

In short, if you have cataracts or just suspect you might, go get tested at your Optometrist. At least get a baseline to track future eye issues.

It is a easy procedure. I never had any pain or ache, nothing at all. Zero Zilch.

If you need cataract surgery, don't worry about it. Get it done. No worries.

Glad everything worked out and you're happy with the outcome. I got multifocals and except for halos at night I couldn't be happier. Not even halos, I see the concentric rings but I'm learning to ignore them. My wife is 2 days post op on her first eye with the same lens and no halos at all yet.
