Have a Daughter moving into a dorm this August, looking to get rid of my steel pneumatic tire heavy as hell hand truck and move to what the pros use a Magliner. Figure it will be the last hand truck I buy so might as well.

Any tips on best place to source these?

Thanks,

HK Ag

I have a Magliner Gemini Jr, bought it 16 years ago, can't remember the place of purchase. Have used it for work hundreds of time, still works like a champ. Amazon sells it.

I walk out to my garage, its behind the jeep over toward the workbench. Easy peasy. Or call my oldest son to bring the other one back.

Got the first one when I worked for Willson Dairy. Was called after working all night on a computer problem. They needed a sucker to go out to an industrial hardware to pick up 3 of them. When I got there they loaded them in my then new 78 Jeep. When I got back to the plant I was told I had to take one back because a driver had already picked one up. I told the plant manager to blow it out his ass, that I had worked all night, was tired as hell and I wasn't doing it. They'd show me, they took 2 out and left the 3rd for me to deal with. I drove around and commuted for a couple of weeks with it there. Guess you could say I stole (stolt as said here in KY).

The 2nd I found on an interstate on ramp. Just lying there. I didn't want to hit it, of for anyone else to. So I saved it and the next person from and accident. Its the one that foolishly lives with my oldest son. I think, haven't seen it in years. It was foolish because it had the Pneumatic tires. They're worth their weight in, well, I don't know.

The 3rd was reduced to scrap. I found it on the interstate, too. It got run over multiple times, but I got it off the roadway. I kept the usable parts, the "ice cream" loop you use as a handle and the tires. My intention was to move them to the one in the garage. I'm too lazy.

I usually get such things from uline.com, since their closest warehouse is close enough that most things get to me next day via UPS Ground for free.

They do have Magliner convertible hand trucks from $339 - $369, depending on the model.

I like free better. Have you tried Craigslist? Industrial auctions work, too.. With all this shut down nonsense, there should be a fair number of business going belly up. Should be some outstanding bargains. Its how I got my stainless shovel 40+ years ago. No rust on it yet.

I am one of those professional delivery guys. 24 years operating a Magliner. Never used a convertible they are to heavy and cumbersome for what I do.

If I can make one suggestion it would be to find one with brakes. You have so much control over balance as well as descending a ramp or staircase. You may be the most powerful individual on the planet but brakes will make you more so. Last spring myself and 2 buddy’s moved a 32 gun safe up into our old house using one. The brakes held it as the helpers would reposition themselves. Go all in and get the stairclimber slides too.

There are more companies out there besides Magliner. You won’t go wrong with Magliner though. 24 years I’ve worn out one and very close on this one now. For gods sake get one that is about 5’ tall I much prefer one handed operation.

Might suggest calling or talking to a Coke guy Pepsi guy beer guy. Most don’t have brakes though.

Not trying to steer you away from buying a new toy...er tool but most colleges have students who volunteer to help the “‘rents” move their kids stuff into their dorm. At least the ones in Virginia do. Tipped them $20 and they were done in 15 minutes.

Never cared for the big wheeled carts, much prefer the small wheeled appliance dolly.

Used them at the warehouse I managed. We bought direct from magliner. Looks like they still sell direct.
