Your post brings back memories. Many years ago I read the book 'Shibumi'. A very edge of your seat book and IIRC in the course of my life I have read it TWO times! Thin it's time to see if the library has it in stock for another read.

My first thought also was the Trevinian novel. I have read it several times. Love his work.
