A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter.

The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge. Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said. It is unclear what the charges are.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.

Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Is it also unclear who the accused is?

When will the information be released?

Do we get to stew and speculate all weekend?

One report I've read says people could be taken into custody as early as Monday.

I suspect they won't release the name until the arrest is made--wouldn't want them to escape.

No leaks because they didn't catch the right guys, ie Trump, and crew. If they had anything we would have known for weeks.

My thoughts as well. If those who are going to be named are Republicans, this story would have more leaks than a fishing net. Will be interesting as time continues.

I have a tendency to agree with this. This would be a very effective way to castrate Mueller.

So how exactly did CNN learn of charges being filed?

Who told CNN?

Shouldn't this type of news be released in a press briefing?

Seems as if CNN has a cozy relationship with the Mueller investigative team.

With all the stuff now coming to light implicating the DNC to Russia fake story we need to see who recommended Mueller to lead this's sideshow. Clearly they knew Mueller had his hands in the pie from his Obama days and could find other rabbit trails for the press. Mueller is dishonest and should have recused himself like sessions did.

All this makes me really appreciate how much of this we were never supposed to know about, counting on a President Hillary! Stunning the scale of things the scheming, fixing the unmasking of citizens the wiretaps of Trump folks all prior to losing!

Maybe there is finally going to be a little light shed on this circus. With the unknown gazillion laws we have I am unsure what specific laws these folks will be charged with breaking...

Maybe I'm just slow.

possible guesses

http://www.rollcall.com/news/p...-mueller-indictments

Paul Manafort

- Mueller has reportedly warned Manafort that he likely would be indicted

Michael Flynn

Carter Page

- Though Page has denied any nefarious links to Russian officials, he has informed the Senate Intelligence Committee that he plans to plead the Fifth if called to testify in that panel’s Russia probe. He is slated to appear before the House Intelligence Committee next week but has given no indication if he will be cooperative in that investigation.

Long shots:

Jared Kushner
Donald Trump, Jr

Both were present during a July 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer who allegedly came with Kremlin-supplied dirt on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Kushner and Trump Jr indictments would seem really far out
