Windows 7 Home Premium OS It will update OS as needed. But if you do a download for any other program it will not. Example would be downloading a PDF to print out. CCleaner updates. Adobe updates. All programs when attempting download result in an error message or just doesn't do anything. Google fu has not helped so far. Suggestions? Did a sfc/scannow, suggested on tomshardware and it came back 100% complete no windows resource protection integrity violations Thanks HP - Pavilion x64 Pentium dual core E5400 @ 2.7GHz 7G RAM Windows system 32 " like i said,....i didn't build it, i didn't buy it, and i didn't break it."

Did this and no luck. Whenever a download is attempted, once I hit "Run", it gives a message "xxxx.exe couldn't be downloaded". Retry, Cancel, View Downloads". " like i said,....i didn't build it, i didn't buy it, and i didn't break it."

With all browsers or just IE or Chrome? Did you do the full factory reset?

If you are using IE, check the following setting. From the tools menu item, select Internet Options. Click on the advanced tab of the dialog that appears. Scroll down to the Security section in the list that appears. Check if the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" item is checked. if it is, try unchecking it and click the OK button.

Yes. IE, Chrome and Safari. Do you mean "tools", "internet options", "advanced", "reset internet explorers options". Then restart computer. If so then yes, twice now and still no luck. Example for trying to update CCleaner. When asked to download I click yes. Starts download Ask do u want to save, I hit RUN. Running security scan ccsetup531.exe couldn't be downloaded Then a window pops up for IE stating "IE has stopped working" Click "close program" This happens with any program trying to download. Hope I explained correctly. Thanks " like i said,....i didn't build it, i didn't buy it, and i didn't break it."

Went here. Trying to do updates for windows. The computer has been "checking for updates" for a while now. I'll let it keep going and see what happens. " like i said,....i didn't build it, i didn't buy it, and i didn't break it."

Right click on a link to a pdf and save to desktop. Commonly, files are barred from opening from the download directory. Try a pdf saved to the desktop as a proof of concept.

What antivirus / spyware or browser protection programs are you running? Have you tried disabling them one a the time? Run the current ccleaner and check the registry with it. Also, try manually cleaning all contents from your temp files locations. La One trick I use is to send all temp files to a single c:\temp folder, much simpler to locate and maintain. You only configure it once for each user and the system and then in the internet settings. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Just to start somewhere, try changing the download location in chrome settings to another place, for example your desktop so you can watch the download behaviuor as in if the temp file is created while it starts downloading but fails to change to a saved one once the download is over. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20
