Hey! Hold my beer! |
I have two comcast emails. I have had them longer than I can remember. One is for general, one is for more serious stuff. The serious stuff account is also my log in account for comcast for paying bill, account maintenance, etc. I cant remember the reason atm, but my daughter needed that password for some reason, so I changed it then gave it to her. Fast forward a couple months later, (today) I can't check my email. Thunderbird is asking me for the password to that account. How it "forgot", I don't know. I can't remember the new password... I ask the daughter. She doesn't know. I ask the wife. She doesn't know. Great. So the wife asked me what computer do I use to pay the comcast bill? I said both the home pc (which she was on) and my laptop. She asks if the comcast page password is saved in firefox? Yep. Couple clicks later, she not only told me the password to that account, but also pulled up EVERY password that is saved in firefox! WTH!?!?!?!? No, she is not a computer geek. She normally has to ask me how to run the printer / scanner. A co-worker showed her that sly little trick a couple weeks ago. Yes, I realize (especially now) that I should be using a secure app or add on for passwords, but I never thought that you can just go into firefox settings and click on it to show you every password! Just a PSA for all you firefox users.

Same thing in Safari, and most other browsers.

Uh, a saved password is ...well... I don't quite know how to break this to you... saved.

Comic Relief |
But if you disable the "remembering" of passwords and logins, neither you or your computer will remember them. Or your daughter or your wife...

Take an address book and write them down.

Just for the hell of it |
You can disable it. I use it to remember and auto log me into things like sigforum. I don't want to have to log into some places I frequent. Much easier and if you're smart about it, not a big security risk IMHO. All banking, utilities and anything like that I have to log into myself. The ones that remember my password use a different password than others sights. My computer also needs a password to start up or after it goes to sleep so someone couldn't just pick it up and have access to anything. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. The only password saved is the one to SigForum. All others I enter myself.

For those passwords that don't really matter, no problem letting the browser remember them for you. Passwords that need to be kept secure, I use 1PassWord. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
