MRBTXIf anything it's hand tools. The good ones are worth paying more for.

hudrBeef in my freezer.
And almost anything that has to do with motorcycle gear (tires, helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. )
There is probably more, but that is what comes to mind right now.

egregoreVehicles and tools. It is well worth paying for a Toyota over most other brands, because those will make it up in repairs. And I bought mostly Snap-on tools because I used them professionally and hard. Also bologna and hot dogs. As much as I hate paying over $7 for a pound of all-beef bologna or $5 for a pack of all-beef hot dogs, it is so much better that I swallow it.
For other things, I buy the best
that fit my budget. I don't buy anything (now) that I can't at least pay the credit card ending statement the following month. So, for example, no $2000 scopes with $400 mounts, but a $400 scope with a $100 mount is doable. There are other things where a premium is not worth paying for when the cheap item does the exact same thing. What
really pisses me off is when I pay the premium and the item still underperforms or breaks.

None? I just bought a new Resistol “Black Gold” felt hat last fall. I wanted one of these for a long, long time. A Resistol Black Gold is a 20X hat, and it sells for $650.
A 100% beaver fur Resistol is $3,000. I’m happy that you have that kind of money, but unfortunately, I don’t.
You don’t have to buy Resistol. Most custom hat makers are half that price, or less.
David at Texas Hatters died, but I think his pure beaver customs were running 7-800.

GeorgeairMy list pretty much reflects earlier items, all very wise.
We got cheap-o TP once from Sam's when our daughter was a teen. It ended up in a powder room first. Our daughter came out after using maybe the second or third time and asked, and I quote; "Are we poor now?"
Apparently the TP quality does matter!

The closest custom hat maker to me is Trent Johnson’s Greeley Hat Works. His shop has a great reputation and I would certainly like to have one.
Trent’s pure beaver felt hat is $1,889, certainly less than Resistol’s, but more than I can afford to pay. His 20x hat is $1,089. He claims his 20 is comparable to another maker’s 40x hat, and that may be true, but that’s still a lot of money.
I was horseback all of my adult life, sometimes riding as necessary for my rangeland management job, other times more frequently. There was a period of time when I was horseback every working day for two years. God, I would have killed to have had a pure beaver felt hat back then, but it was out of the question.
I still want items than are a bit more than I can afford, but now I wear a western hat for events connected to CFD, and the 10 days of the show itself. I have two 20x Resistols, black and silverbelly, and a decent straw made by Justin. They’re all more than
good enough.

1967GoatMy Kenmore washing machine crapped out after 20 years the week before Christmas. My wife wanted to get a Whirlpool set from Lowe's for about $1,900 or so...Delivered next day. I took her to a local dealer to look at Speed Queen. I convinced her the $4,021 was worth it. We ordered the set Dec 23. It's now Feb 25 and I'm still waiting.
I'd like to say the Speed Queen was worth it, but I still can't wash my clothes.

AITGI'm surprised at how similar all our lists are.
Tires. Michelin or Hankook on my trucks.
Maintenance on cars and trucks. Done on schedule with mostly factory parts.
Clothing. Carhartt and Wrangler.
Vehicles. F-150 and an Escape. Not flashy but functional and there's an honest dealer close by.
Tools. Old Craftsman, Snap-On Mac and MATCO.
Ammunition. CCI Speer or Federal.
Don't care about appearances but I care about results.

ibandaI'll echo what a lot of others have said.
Shoes
Belt and Holster
Tires
Car battery - doesn't get a 2nd chance. If a battery fails once it gets a jump start, and then I go straight to the auto parts store and get a quality new battery. I hate being stranded!
I have a few SIGs.

egregoreAgain with the "best but within a budget" parameter: tires. No Michelins or other "top-line" tire, but no Chinese Ling Longs (more appropriate for a panda than a tire company) either. General, BF Goodrich and so on strike this happy medium.

GT-40DOCGood aged bourbon. When I was younger and usually always broke, I consumed the lower priced(Rot-gut) bourbons. Not any more. I don't drink a lot of it, but when I do, I want, no demand, the good stuff!!
