My retirement.

Prioritized the mortgage and paid it off at 32.

Kept the bills to a minimum and never tried to impress anybody with possessions.

Every car I have owned and driven was either already in or going to the junkyard.

I haven't had a mortgage for 25 years, but I don't economise on car tyres or brake components.
Haven't bought a Rolex in twenty years now. either. Wink

Wow. I really had to ponder that. Nothing, I guess. By no means am I top shelf type guy, but within the limits of my resources, I always buy the best of anything I can afford in line with the intended use. Don’t own anything flashy.
Life is short. I want to be comfortable and happy for as long as I’ve got.

That’s impressive in this day and age. The opposite of the Joneses. Kudos.

Just about anything car-related. Tires, maintenance, etc. The car itself. Sunglasses. Computers. Beer. TP/paper products.

I'm similar. Some things I'll buy top-end, but most I shoot for best value. The difference between the 90th and 95th percentile of quality can often be 2x or 3x's the price with minimal returns on quality. So I buy the best thing I can afford consistent with how I plan to use it and it's value.

I will pay more for almost anything IF I get higher quality with it. This especially goes for food, tools (garage and kitchen), electronics, firearms, vehicles, and others.

I appreciate this thread and all the comments so far.

As I get older (and wiser? Wink), I'm able to afford quality for the most part and I realize it's not time to skimp on me. I worked hard in my career and now it's time to reap the rewards. Yes, I do look for sales and good deals, but I generally get what I need....and want. And I always try to remember to be grateful! This thread helps.

Health care as mentioned earlier. I also no longer drive long distances to buy a product I want. Time becomes more valuable than money.

My parents always bought single-ply, sandpaper textured toilet paper. Understand where the saying "chafes my ass" comes from. No more. As others have mentioned, Charmin TP all the way.

Footwear. After my time in the Marine Corps, I will spend good money to make sure my feet are warm and dry, always. I don't care how much Danner boots cost, or weigh.

When quality counts, spend the money.
Cheap stuff rarely ends up saving you money.
I only buy quality. And I sacrafice quantity every time. I would rather have a few really good items than many lower quality ones.

Buy good gear. Don't buy crap that sits in the closet.

Do, Or do not. There is no try.
