Odd day - suspicious car and death threat
Today a car slowly drove by our house five times. Twice stopping past and backed up in front of our house. Once he was sitting in front for 5 minutes. I approached on the last drive by but he kept going. I didn't even know it was 5 times until I checked the camera footage. I have the license make and model and am obviously armed. So you all think it's anything, what would you do?

Oddly, my wife got a call earlier today. The person asked if it was my wife's name, she said who is this? He said if you don't help me I'm going to kill Janet (her estranged aunt). She hung up and called the police. We also verified Janet was ok and that it was her old phone number the man was calling from.

Odd day, got me on edge. Even worse, I have the front door off for painting right now.

You already know that answer; nothing.

What would the "Crime" be?

Call your friends. Sounds like a druggie looking for money. Unstable people may need to have their chemistry equalized

The crime would be extortion. For example, in Louisiana:

"§66. Extortion

Extortion is the communication of threats to another with the intention thereby to obtain anything of value or any acquittance, advantage, or immunity of any description. The following kinds of threats shall be sufficient to constitute extortion:

(1) A threat to do any unlawful injury to the person or property of the individual threatened or of any member of his family or of any other person held dear to him; ...

From the OP:

"...He said if you don't help me I'm going to kill Janet..."

In Louisiana, extortion is a felony punishable by 1-15 years.

Hopefully you have a security system, vigilant freinds willing to sit watch and something in 5.56 or 12 gauge.

With the drive bys, I'd be calling the cops back and giving them that little tidbit of information. If you know and are on good terms with your neighbors

What's your back yard situation?

Unless the original poster is exceptionally wealthy, powerful, or highly placed, this doesn't make much sense, and given that he's removed his own door to paint, It doesn't sound like wealth or power or high status. Something's not right, clearly.

"Janet" should have been moved already, and the front door replaced. If a credible threat, any law enforcement will take this seriously. Someone is surveilling the original poster, calling his wife using the aunt's number and threatening the aunt in a different location...sounds like an ambitious operation. What's the original poster or aunt got to make it worth someone's while? Where's the follow up?

Nice analysis. I’m not downplaying the OP’s situation but a good analysis can help clarify the situation and identify the best course of action.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Well everybody's ok, the phone call was definitely a scam.

Not sure if the suspicious car was related or not, haven't seen it again.
