Cattle prices are up, so I bought a Speed Queen Washer Login/Join

My son and his family rent my barndominium. The clothes washer I put in when it was built (26 years ago) started chewing up drive belts.
So I bought myself a little bit smaller Speed Queen and gave them my old Kenmore that is maybe 10 years old.
I have a load in it right now. We shall see how it turns out.

These have been bragged on all over this forum, so maybe it will be the last washer I buy.

You won't regret your purchase. Much like a tortoise or a macaw, it will probably outlive you. LOL!

Based on forum advice, we bought a Speed Queen analog w/d in 2018 and they have been completely trouble free. Good Luck with yours. Smile

Will be curious to know how long it takes to wash a load.

I've decided that my dream home will have three washer /dryer hookups.

The cabrio we have typically takes 70-85 minutes per load.

That's b.s.

Moms Maytag wringer washer did the same thing in 35 minutes.

Bendable…
I ran a load today. I neglected to time it. I’m curious as well.
Laundry has always been one of those “push the go button and go do something else” type of chore.

I had never heard of Speed Queen until here on this forum. When we were ready to replace our washer and dryer it was a no brainer and I love the set.

I've had my analog Speed Queen for a little over a year. On the normal setting with no extras, a single load takes 27 minutes.

Mine can do it as fast or long as you like. It just depends what you want. It has a quick wash, normal wash, you can soak, extra rinse, allergy rinse, etc. Length of a regular wash will also depend on how dirty you say the items are.

I want to buy one. I've come to terms with the price tag. There's a store that sells them within walking distance of my house. But I HATE them. I hate dealing with them (used to have to for work). I hate even walking through the door. I feel like I need a shower when I walk out of there. So the idea of giving them money is killing me.

We’ve had one for about six months. It’s the older model with an actual honest to goodness agitator. Mrs. BB61 loves it. It’s faster and gets the clothes cleaner. But, it uses more water so probably a wash on energy vs water usage.

They're good quality washers and dryers, but their capacity is very small by todays standards.

I bought a Speed Queen w/d set when I bought my first house in `89. The washer finally gave up the ghost after about 25 years. The dryer was still running when I sold the house in `22, so 33+ years. I had to have the heating control board in it replaced once, that was the only issue.

I wish I never heard of Speed Queen (too much time in the laundromat)

I bought the set a few years ago, love the simplicity and timeless design. Even switched to powdered Tide like Mom used to use. Clothes are clean and smell great, nice to know that I will not have to ever buy another set.

I bought my set in 2015. $700 each. The only problem I've had is due to my hard water clogging up the intake screen. I can tell when it happens as it'll take forever to fill the tub. Pretty easy fix though.

The only other machine that I would consider is an old Maytag wringer like mom had. I've been looking for one to put out in my shop.

Ok, I’ll bite….what the heck does cattle prices and a washer have to do with each other? Am I reading the title correctly?

I raise beef cattle. Sale barn prices have been plumb silly the last year or so.
I can now afford the price difference between a “regular” washer and this Speed Queen.

I was convinced to buy a SQ after visiting too many laundromats in my bachelor days, and seeing that they were almost universal in that role. My thinking, if they were the best for commercial uses, how could that be bad?

I think we've had our current SQ washer for well over 10 years, the Commercial Heavy-duty model. It still works like new with no signs of giving up any time soon. Best of all, Mrs. A is happy with it. It does seem to get the clothes cleaner and in less time than our previous Maytag.

I do have a shutoff valve in the washer feed. I think these save a lot of wear and tear on internal gaskets, etc. in the machine.

Yep.

Speed Queen is my go-to recommendation due to their build quality, longevity/reliability, and ease of maintenance... unless you have a large family that needs a large capacity washer.

But for 1-2 or perhaps 3 people (or more, if you just enjoy constantly doing smaller loads of laundry), they're fantastic.
