That’s what we did when I was in. LORAN-C AND a chart with plots laid every 30 min.
It’s funny, even though I started as a fireman, we had to be able to navigate. Either while on watch to plot people calling for help and running the rescue as an E2, or navigating for the coxn while I was also the engineer on the 41’ utility boat. Then when I became a Gunner’s Mate I was also the Navigator on a Patrol Boat (when on watch)where everyone did/knew everyone else’s job.
I always take a paper chart with me on trips, in case Mrs. Mike’s phone doesn’t work.
