The wife and I are visiting your fair city. Went and saw my Astros get beat on a 3 run homer. Ash from the fires in Canada was actually falling inside the stadium, looked like a smokey bar in there. The folks are nice, the food is good and it's about 25 degrees cooler here than home. Going to the Boeing museum and Victoria over the next couple days.

Yeah, it was nasty. The airport is an absolute cluster btw.
Gas is horribly expensive, everything is actually. I thought the food sucked for the most part. Traffic is a nightmare. We saw the Raineirs play, Smile

Other than that it was great Wink

Are you going to the Boeing factory for the tour, or the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field? If the prior, make sure you swing by the Flying Heritage Collection. Paul Allen is a wingnut, but he restores WWII aircraft like none other.

The smoke...it's even worse away from the city. Thought I saw a news report a week ago that the smoke from last week put Seattle at the top of the list of all cities worldwide as having the absolute worst air quality. Worse than Shanghai. More brown than Beijing.

I second this recommendation. Allen's museum is nirvana for any WWII buff. Be sure you have a good camera if you do go. Each of the planes on display are restored to the point of being flyable.

The smoke has me filling sick. It’s disgusting right now. Two Summers in a row now where we have thick layers of wildfire smoke just sitting on us. Stagnant, gross air. This is not what the PNW is accustomed to.

I’m 30 miles north of the city and it’s bad everywhere.

Paul Allen is a literal supervillain. He's a billionaire, he's kind of evil, he has a private army of ex-special forces soldiers, and he possesses doomsday machines.

But yeah, I hear his museum is totally tits, I just don't want to drive to Everett.

Don't let Paul Allen's politics keep you from going to his museum. We've driven 300 mi. each way to Everett twice now and will go again soon just to see those awesome planes. Yeah, it really is worth that much effort to see.

While that may be true, Hypocrite Paul Allen was one of the big donors in a recent Gun Control Initiative here in Washington. I will be trying my best not to contribute to anything he has his hands in.

I'll be there for the show on Labor Day Weekend if any other SF members want to get together.

We’ve enjoyed Pikes Place market. Been there several times. Sampled juicy brisket, discovered dried strawberries (yum), stood in line for a half hour for famous clam chowder and shrimp poor boys, wasn’t impressed.
We also took a boat tour, saw some of the deadliest catch boats, floating houses, very cool.
Our son lives out there, been there several times including his wedding. We walked everywhere. Who in their right mind would build a city on a mountain? We never walked on level ground. Steep uphill, or down.
We had a very hard time finding breakfast. And also the hotel we were in had a lousy restaurant, but other than that we were happy with food.
We were out there on May first. May Day protest.
Good permit holding protesters and the outlaws. The latter went by our hotel. God! I love our police! Looked like two hundred cops on bicycles and would give synchronized swimming a run for their money! Herded them like cattle!

Check out the Seattle Underground.
THB mentioned the hills. Seattle Originally was on sand spit. One problem was the sewer. When the tide came in, toilets overflowed. Generations of children were toilet trained by the tide tables. Toilets were built so you had to climb to them.
In 1889 the city burned. The city government had the idea to rebuild using high pressure hoses to wash the bluffs down and level the ground. However, businesses had already started rebuilding. The city then decided to rebuild and raise the public property. Businesses soon had to provide ladders to just cross the street. Think pigeons are bad? Imagine horse manure dropping down from the street.
Eventually the business relented and made their second story the first floor. However, they kep the lower floors in operation.
Today, you can tour the basements, and walk the original streets of Seattle. You’ll learn a lot about plumbing and the time a prudish group toured the “stremtress” and discovered two blocks without one sewing machine.

I got the hell out of dodge on Monday. Out at Westport fishing. Nice here out on the coast. Not nearly as much smoke, and 10 degrees cooler.
