dry-flyEducate me please on gas logs for my fireplace
I’m thinking I’d like to convert our natural gas, wood burning fireplace to just the ceramic style gas logs. Here’s what I know so far:
Need 18” vented logs
Have natural gas
I can’t afford a remote ignition setup, but would like the ability to upgrade.
I found a really good guy for the installation, says it will be $125.
Total budget around $700, but less would be better.
I have no idea what brands are good. Poking around at online fireplace/BBQ places is all I’ve done so far. Guidance is greatly appreciated!

1lowlifeI am also contemplating the idea of gas logs in our wood burning fireplace with a gas starter.
I understand the vented gas logs will not put out much heat, and I'm fine with that.
But I do tire of the buying, moving, and cleanup of firewood.
We only have a fire 2 or 3 times a year...
Looking forward to input...

dry-flyI think the vented will still put out close to what wood burning would. But....

mod29Whatever you buy, make sure it's a direct-vent unit. They don't pull air from the room for combustion, so you won't have cold drafts around doors or windows.
Lopi makes good stuff and might be worth checking out, but not sure if it's in your price range.
