My question is this:

As this country spirals out of control, can we keep posting pictures of all of the actors and democrats licking these socialist's balls? (Figuratively speaking. Except for ASG, he'll want the metaphorical and literal pictures.)

Hopefully these poor people end up as repulsed by collectivism, as the people of the former soviet states.

If the problem is the reduced price of oil, and if they have the largest oil reserves in the world, why can't they make up the difference in volume?

Extraction costs for oil. It's the same issues facing the Dakotas -- oil needs to be above a certain price point per barrel in order to be profitable to extract. If the break even price is $80 per barrel and oil is currently at $56, they lose money on every barrel extracted.

They nationalized the oil companies years ago. Basically confiscated all the stuff in the country.
Now the equipment they have is old and run down and they can't pay for new stuff. They are in a death spiral.
Add to that the corruption, give aways that they can't stop without starting a revolt, etc.

Inflation is projected to hit 1,600 percent. $10 billion doesn't buy what it used to.

Trouble is that once the people accept socialist dictators in office, the dictators add power to themselves and become impossible to remove. They surround themselves with co-conspirators and cronies whose interest it is to maintain his crushing power over the people. Together the political elite grind the people into dust and husks. Even our own Presidente O'Bama continues to act the part of a quasi socialist dictator as he is constitutionally disqualified from presidential office, but works in the shadows to subvert. It reminds me of a comically impotent version of Putin when Medvedev was in power. The best possible scenario for Venezuela is a rapid abject collapse of govt. and services that leaves the people dusty but free like when the Soviet Union crumbled. It's painful to watch, but more so to experience. This is why if the people of the US ever actually fall for the siren's song of bald faced socialism, the ride will be rough from there on out.

When times are bad, there is a tendency for a lot of people to clamber for more stronger government to fix their lives for them. It takes strength of character and intellectual honesty to understand and admit government is the problem, not the solution.

Yep. It's how Il Duce' and Hitler rose to power. They just stood up and screamed the loudest that they knew how to fix the problem, and had a boogeyman to blame.
