Who does the Collective like these days for pistol safes?

I want to get one for my son in law for Christmas. He's a corrections officer in New Mexico. They have two kids, newborn and 3YO, so that might dictate options. His duty weapon is a Glock, not sure which, 17 or 19 I think.

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

Without knowing how much room is needed, it's difficult to recommend something. To me, when I hear pistol safe I think small. I suggest you and your son look at the reviews posted on the Handgun Safe Research channel on YouTube:
www.YouTube.com/c/HandgunSafeResearch/videos

They have more safes that failed their tests than passed. Some of the failed safes surprised me because they had good reputations, but who actually tries to destroy a safe they just bought? lol

This is an example of their videos:

enjoy!

I believe the V Line gun boxes to be the best available for one or two handguns. I have two, one of their least expensive models and one of their “Brute” models with a hydraulic arm to help open it. No electronics to mess up, no batteries to die, simple and easy, with the ability to bolt down.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I have a FAS-1 as well as a V Line and they are both high quality gun boxes. The FAS-1 excels when you want to retrieve the contents quickly while the V Line is a little slower and requires the use of two hands but offers additional storage space.

After posting a similar request for recommendations last year, I settled on the V-Line Brute model (for my own use, not as a gift). I have been very happy with this item. It will easily hold two pistols and has the Simplex locking mechanism I prefer for simplicity, ease of operation and reliability. Even my wife has no trouble using it, and I am very confident of its ruggedness and security.

I agree with Chongo. Manual lock is best.

Fort Knox, Amsec, V Line, whatever, as long as it's quality made and has a Simplex mechanical lock. All other pistolsafe locks are shit, imo.

I have used the gun vault for decades. Have one in the spare room for visitors. Has a backup key. Comes with a cable you can run around a car seat for in the vehicle.

If he has room for a safe, I can make him a good deal on this:

Rule of thumb: always go bigger than what you think you need.

Great advice.

Can't be recommended often enough. My "PistolPal" handgun vault is no longer in production, but its Simplex lock has never failed in the thirty years I have owned it.

The Fort Knox pistol safe is what I use. I would definitely recommend. Was 200 a few years ago, but appears to have increased a bit.
